Sat 10 May – Gigantour 2008 Music Festival

First before I get into the show, I have to rant about the bloody venue. The Winnipeg Convention Centre blows.

I like it for smaller shows but this one totally deserved to be in the MTS Centre.

First, the line up outside was ridiculous. People were lined up around the entire building! I was pretty close up in the line and by the time I got through that, got in line to then go through the metal detectors and the body search, then got in line to get my ticket scanned, up…

I'm almost a month late but hell, at least I'm taking the time to actually do it… my top listens of 2007!

1) Addicted

One of my friend's bands, the Red Light Rippers… he gave me a copy of Red Light Rippers vs Supragod From The Trenches and it had a cover of the song by Supragod which was kickass too… rekindled my like for the original and I suppose I listened to it the most out of any song this year.

2) Trinidad

I think this year is the year I discovered EdGuy… some european power metallish band.…

Sun 18 Mar – Heaven And Hell, Megadeth, Down

Down was alright, Megadeth were utterly amazing, and unfortunately Heaven and Hell bored me mostly (except for during the occasional song, which they dragged out too long).

The snapshot in by head that I have taken away from this concert is Dave Mustaine singing Hangar 18. Man he tore the place down, I wish it never ended.

I hope to hell that Megadeth comes back man.

Tue 13 Mar – Paul Di'Anno, Dream Quest, Sudden Flames

I was late in showing up but it didn't look like I missed much of Paul Di'Anno's show, although I didn't get to see the two opening bands.

I enjoyed his performances, although all his ridiculous political rants between songs left a bad taste in my mouth and I left the show unamused, just annoyed that some old second tiered Iron Maiden singer, singing at the local pub had the gall to think a bar full of drunks, and oldies (like myself) give two shits about his political thoughts.…

Kay, the year is almost over and bloody hell it's been a weird one and one of the most expensive 2 date… I gotta learn how to curb that spendthrifty attitude.

Anyhow, time 2 reminisce about something that's totally like free… MUSIC! It's ain't really the end of the year but it's close enuff.

Oh yeah and even though I may have had more than one song by any given band, I am only gonna list the top listened to song.

With the apparent approaching comeback of all things metal in the music world today, many acts from the eighties are releasing new CDs. While the latest Lizzy Borden CD may not have been met with as much anticipation as the newest Iron Maiden one, I know I have been looking forward to it.

I happened upon the band Disturbed one day while watching them open for Danzig. I didn't expect much from this unknown band because a) I had never heard of them and b) most opening bands through my experience are likely to suck.

Something didn't suck about this opening band. While I didn't drop down to my knees and shout out "This is it! This is what I've been waiting for!", their sound stuck in my head and I made a mental note to pick up the CD. I actually felt bad they were playing to only a few people…

Jimi Hendrix was dead before I was even born. That said, it took me until I was seventeen and this collection to appreciate his music.

After countless listens I can undeniably state that I love his more baladsy type tunes. Even from the first listen Castle Made Of Sand became my favorite song. It still tugs at my heart when I listen to his soft singing and his sad lyrics. Hey Joe is another with some similarities.

I've always been sick of hearing about Lita being one of the few women rockers out there, perhaps as sick as I'm sure she is of hearing it. In every interview I have seen with Lita she's always asked about being a woman in rock and what advice she has for women who aspire to be rock musicians. Get over it.
