It's tempting sometimes to replace my overall charts on my profile page with one of the rolling charts, and high up in my overall charts are artists who I have barely listened to since early in my last.fm 'career', e.g. Stereo Total and Ladytron (though I still like them).

But I generally prefer to see the overall charts, as I like the idea of accumulated statistics. And seeing the progress of different artists as they make a dent in my established charts.

So instead I thought it would be interesting to set out some of top charts side-by-side, and see…

Anyone tried Social.Fm? The concept is free, legal P2P radio. You download some software and add the files you want to share. It can only be music you own legally (either digital purchases or CDs you own that you've ripped). Then any other member can stream your playlist, or individual songs by artists you've uploaded if they've searched for that particular artist.

I think it's potentially a very useful and fun tool. I was investigating it tonight because I resubscribed to Emusic, and was wishing there was a way to listen to more than short samples of music I'm curious…

I do love last.fm, but whenever there's a new site change, I tend to give my feedback only as complaints rather than positive feedback. There are a few reasons for this: first, it's practical, in that I really would like something to be done about the issues that are a problem and feel it important to speak up about these things, especially if I feel I can articulate them in a matter that may help them be understood. … disturbs me. It would be OK if they continued to make the quality music they made in the 60s (or even the 70s for some), but I'm afraid for many, the 80s permanently damaged their perception of what constitutes listenable music.

P2P is great for nabbing really hard-to-find stuff, since lots of brilliant anonymous people rip their rare vinyl or out-of-print CDs and shuttle them out into cyberspace. But often, not having found a discography on some 60s artist I'm curious about, I take a stab in the dark and download anything their name is attached to.

Was there ever a time that you could listen to other people's personal tag radios, as a non-subscriber? I could have sworn you used to be able to, from the times my subscriptions lapsed.

Also while I'm here… can anyone tell me where on earth I can find recommended reading from my groups? And is there still recommended reading from journal entries linked to bands in your profile? :S

This site change has really thrown me. A few of you know I have ME/CFS and can get quite confused with some tasks, and I have to say - this new design really makes it hard for me to want to hang around here. I've used a CSS overwrite so it does look a bit better, but the resolution I have to use with my condition isn't supported yet. Plus it's just a mess in so many other ways. I miss how easy it was to find recommended posts/journals. The 'my dashboard page' is just a disaster. I don't get…
