Finally live on stage, Control Human Delete. Went to Soest with great expectations and curiosity.

The played third in row, starting at 23.30 something or so. This band consists of great musicians and they have an enormous stage sound with as much energy as a nuclear blast. Unbelievable the power they send into the crowd. Well, crowd is a great word, because the venue including crowd was not ideal for a band like CHD. They need a full stage with a full scale PA system with a huge backline. The guitarists used ENGL amp heads, which I like very much, and also they showed a lot of serious attention to their mix and sound quality, which is of course that what makes or break a live performance. I would suggest they play next time without supporting bands so they can set up their stage and soundcheck for the best possible.

The sphere of the music was for almost 100% the same as they put on their excellent album. Superb. This band has the potential to grow very big on the international stage of extreme metal. Probably one of the best (THE BEST according to me :) )dutch export product available right now (though not for the mainstream metal fans :) )

I hope they have a good management, because they deserve a wide range of possibilities to play live.

The Locust, they played almost double the settime as they did before when I did see them headlining, 40 minutes. That seems not too much, but when you have seen them you will understand that more then this is not possible. With their level of energy, power and discipline it's already unbelievable they can still breathe after the show. I think they put on a great show performing before a full venue. They are great musicians and also so incredible tight in their breaks and performance, it's close to perfectionism. Three of them are also singing and because they each sing completely different together with the high energy licks and high volume, not to speak about the completely stand still between the songs and the genious suits they leave people behind with disturbed minds and highly nervous :). I really like the analog synths and the weird sound scapes the player gets out of it, it makes you sometimes think that a huge bunch of insects is coming to get you. I think there is nothing around like The Locust and it is definitely a must see for everyone who like (extreme) metal, live perfomances, cross over and music in general, because it will enrich you, one way or another.

Mon 10 Sep – ennio morricone

What an event! At the amazing San Marco Piazza in Venice, Ennio Morricone's performance was a once in a lifetime experience. Seeing such a living legend at work, with his record of work is an experience at itself.

They had setup 5000 chairs on the Piazza, surrounded by all the little private squares of the ristorantes, where people could buy a VIP ticket with food and drinks included. And at the end of the Basilica di San Marco they had still room for standing places, which were totally free (however the sight was not good there, because of the closed fences) and had quite acceptable sound.

On 10 September I had front row tickets (Row 18 of 100) and at 11 September I watched (= listened) from the back at the Basilica di San Marco.

    Playlist of 10 September:

    Tre Adagi (14')
    -Tema di Deborah
    -Addio Monti
    -Vatel

    Fogli Sparsi (20')
    -H2S
    -Il Clan del Sciliani
    -Metti una Sera a Cena
    -Uno chen grida amore
    -Maddalena

Modernita Del Mito Nel Cinema Di Sergio Leone (13')
-Il Buono, Il Brutto, El Cattivo
    -C'era una Volta Il West
    -Giu la Testa
    -L'Estasi dell'Oro

    Cinema Dell'Impegno (20'12")
    -La Battaglia di Algeri
-Indagine su un Cittadino al di sopra di ogni Sospetto
    -Sostiene Pereira
-La Classe Operaia va in Paradiso
    -Vittime di Guerra
    -Abolisson

    Cinema Tragico, Lirico, Epico (20')
    -Il Deserto dei Tartari
    -Riccardo III
-Il Deserto dei Tartari - Reprime
    -Gabriel's Oboe
    -Falls
-In Earth as it is in Heaven

And 4 songs as extra for the ever enthousiastic (mainly italian) public.

The Sergio Leone part was my favorite and was played full of passion by the Orchestra Roma Sinfonietta. When Susanna Rigacci came to sing the vocals you really felt it deep inside.

On 11 September, when I watched from the very back of the Piazza it was touching how all the (touristic) crowds kept silence...really amazing to be there.

On this day he openend with a specially composed piece for the victims of 9/11 WTC NYC. This 29 minute piece "Voci Dal Silencio" could really be his best piece ever, i couldn't believe what he was doing here, so many different styles mixed, but still a real Ennio piece, so far ahead of it's time, I can not wait to buy a recording of this, to let it hear to everyone who wants to take the time to experience one of the greatest living composers of this time.

    Il Maestro, Ennio Morricone!
