Btw have you checked out Beak> yet? Interested in your thoughts-it's also on Spotify.

Agreed vintage year, I've got 350 tracks in my best of 09 playlist-although it's been a year where I've spent many hours scratching my head trying to work out how to classify each artist by genre-here have a go; 2562, Nosaj Thing, Lukid, Hudson Mohawke, Zomby.

Yeah yeah ok I hear you :) Btw are you mentally constructing a best of 2009? I'm not sure I could easily choose an album of the year at this point.

I rated nine tracks of London Zoo at 5 star but in truth I haven't returned to it that often-maybe I should now.

I'm not sure the review suggested something like Rhythm & Sound-but the album artwork looks a little like Shaggy :) It's not on Spotify so I'll have to see if I'm prepared to part money for it.

I'm new to Steve Reich, but I agree that Different Trains is particularly emotional in part. I am also fascinated by how the strings can reproduce the sound of a train on there.

I nearly snorted my coffee when you called this "dance oriented". Maybe for some folks with phenomenal mind/body synchroniztion, but certainly not for the way I [used to] dance. ☺ I did find an opportunity for a complete listen, with nearly full attention (I was alone, but making dinner). I think the choice of the the "Moritz von Oswald Trio" moniker is inspired. On tracks 1 and 3 I could really see them as a trio in a small beatnik club - all 3 wearing shades, one with a beret, and all intensely grooving to their tunes. I mean this in a positive way BTW. I really found some resonance with these two tracks. Not sure why - but I was reminded of the liner notes to Morton Subotnik's "Sidewinder" from the '70's - these tracks make extremely good use of their time. On this go-round - I didn't find as much to like in tracks 2 and 4. Perhaps later....

Yes it's pretty good imho-I can't say there's a track as good as Blood On My Hands but it's certainly worth picking up.

I've only managed one time through MvOT's Vertical Ascent so far and even then it didn't have my full attention. I think my reaction is, similar to your confrères on disquiet, that the 4 pieces are somewhat emotionless. But I am not nearly as experienced a listener to this type of music as others, and it may well be that repeated listenings will be rewarded.
