Lungs": A compilation of thirteen triumphant tracks
from the breathtakingly beautiful Florence And The Machine, and no surprises here… we can't stop listening to it! It seems we're not the only ones, as not only has their already iconic debut gone Gold since it's release just under two weeks ago, but the fourth single "Rabbit Heart" (Raise it up) certainly seems to be the song that's not only been stuck in our heads these past few weeks, but ruthlessly dominating the airwaves.
Inspired from an early age by 1980's icon Kate Bush, Florence ferociously flaunts her depth and darkness through haunting vocal style and lyrical themes of a controversially macabre nature. It is through genius as opposed to miracle that Florence manages to deliver the goriest of sentiment in such a soulfully upbeat manner. Prime examples of her sheer knack for this are no rarity on this album, whether we take "Kiss With a Fist" as an example or "My Boy Builds Coffins", it's fair to say that only a truly effervescent front woman could get away with such a boldly tongue in cheek attitude towards issues such as domestic violence.
This is the one we've been waiting for; and the last thing it could be described as is a disappointment. From their fresh take on The Source's "You've got the love" to the incredibly catchy "Dog Days are Over", this album is an over all winner. It's safe to say that "Lungs" has been the cherry on top the cake, metaphorically concluding that Florence And The Machine have well and truly ignited the female fronted music scene with a refreshingly quirky, soulful edge.
