  • INTERVIEW WITH LE SCRAWL FROM GERMANY (AUGUST 2011)

    19 Sep 2011, 18:04

    1) Hi. My first question concerns your history, specifically the year 1989, when in Germany arose LE SCRAWL ( You didn’t have this name since the beginning, do you?). Who of your current members was next to this big birth? How was your start as a band? It could be hard to gain a toe-hold in Germany as a young band playing grind-core, is it true?

As you mentioned, Scrawl (the „le“ was added in 2000 to avoid a mix up with another band from the US) was formed by Peter (drums) and myself (vocals/guitar/bass) in 1989. Both of us went to the same school and shared an interest in the same kind of music. Influenced by bands like E.N.T. and Napalm Death and a live show by „Active Minds“ (one of the very few occassions to see such bands in East Germany) in the Spring of 1989 we decided to start the band. The Wall coming down obviosly improved our chances to perform that kind of music siginicanctly ... We decided to record songs before ever playing live – maybe as we were not sure whether anyone would ever except our blend of musical styles. After putting out 4 songs on the ”I kill what I eat” compilation by Ecocentric Records in 1993 we began to do live shows as well and kept on recording ever since....

    2) Well, at the beginning you played “typical“ grind-core. How did you find the idea to combinate grind-core with other music styles like ska, swing, jazz and so on? Was it exacting to mix together so many different styles and make it as a listenable whole? And how were first reactions from your audience, when they first heard this varied assortment of various types of music?

The idea to blend these styles and, potentially even more important, to built up songs on a melodic base adding blast beats etc. came up very soon after we started the band, mainly as we had and have a broad interest in music. Fortunately many people seem to share these interests; therefore reactions have been very positive from the beginning. However, it’s always interesting to find out how people respond to our stuff, like when we played OEF for the first time we’ve been not sure at all that would turn out so well.

    3) I would to jump to the present: could you describe your present band-compositions, cand you say about each member? Who has a “main word“ in a band, as regards making music, planning concerts and so on? And when are you making new songs, do you make it from many different ideas from each member, or is it only stuff for a part of your band?

The line up currently consists of Peter (drums), Simon (git), Uta (keys), Arne (Sax, Flute) and me (bass, Voc). All songs are somewhat based on ideas and melodies I come up with and become developed by all of us – which means songs often take surprising turns in the process of further elaboration.

    4) Your discography is quite wild, you have changed many labels and companies, like ECOCENTRIC RECORDS, PSYCHOMANIA RECORDS, MORBID RECORDS and of course OBSCENE EXTREME PRODUCTIONS, where did you release your last CD SNOWBLIND, last year. Why did you make so much changes in publishers? And how did you get to OBSCENE EXTREME PRODUCTIONS? Are you going to stay in cooperation with Curby, is it OK for you?

Well, there’s even more labels (Life is abuse and RSR) but we don’t consider it “wild” at all and it’s not unusual to release on various labels simply due to the D.I.Y. idea. Moreover, it’s interesting to cooperate with different people and to get to know the different ideas about music. Curby approached us for the OEF in 2004 and we stayed in touch since. We told him about the new record, sent him a rough mix and I guess he must have liked it. We’ve been very pleased by this coop so if there’s a new project somewhere in the future we’d be happy to release it on Curbys label again.

    5) What can you say about your CD TOO SHORT TO IGNORE, which was released in 2002? This CD was type of a turning point in you career, is it true? Can you describe what followed after releasing this CD?

This CD is actually a discography and sums up all our releases until 1999 recorded by the original line up. It got a pretty good response and established the coop with „life is abuse“ and „RSR“ which also released „Eager to please“ which marked not only line up changes but also the first record with more structured, melodic, faster (and longer) songs including „boiling point“ which got the best response so far.

    6) What about your cooperation with producer Harris Johns? How did the meeting with him change your career?

With „Eager to please“we started recording with Harris and taped all projects thereafter at his „music lab“as well. It’s incredibly helpful to work with someone who’s so experienced (needless to mention all the bands he’s worked with) and over the years we got to know each other better and better – so it becomes easier every time we go back to the studio.

    7) You have played in OBSCENE EXTREME FEST for two times, last time was in this year, and first time was in 2004. Can you compare these two OEFs (2004 vs. 2011) ,as regards fans, sound, surroundings, and the feeling of your show in general? How did people in Czech Republic embraced your music?

Yeah 2004 marked our first appearance at the OEF, which was to us one of the most exciting shows ever, we came back in 2008 and 2011 and it’s every time very thrilling to see people dancing to our songs and from what we hear, aside from OEF also, people in the Czech Republic seem to be very open minded and to appreciate our approach to music. Therefore, we chose Prague for our release party for “snowblind”.

    8) What about your playing in Germany? Is there similar friendly atmosphere between bands which play extreme music as in Czech Republic? And what about fans, do you have big attendance and dancing crowd in your concerts?

It’s actually not that big of a difference – people who show up at our shows usually know by now what to expect and even at the festivals we played we got good response.

    9) You have undergone the tour over California and France. Can you describe local concerts and fans? How did these tours were under way and who did keep you company?

It’s not that different there as well, it was just very exciting to see that there’re people like in San Francisco or Paris who know our music and attend our shows. The response it’s pretty much the same (fortunately). Even though the tours were rather short it’s exhausting also, besides tons of fun of course.

    10) I have a question about you last CD SNOWBLIND, which was (as I wrote) released in OBSCENE EXTREME PRODUCTIONS. Are you satisfied with the record at all? How does this CD differ from your previous creation? Which way will go your music on, do you have some special plans, changes, new instruments, or other experimental elements?

We are very happy with record – we’ve been trying to include some elements of 80’s alternative music and skipped other styles we used in the past – so we think it turned our really well. And as I said before the recording sessions went very well too.

Currently we’re in some sort of a brain storming process starting to lay down some new ideas – so we’ll see were this is gonna lead to ....

  • INTERVIEW WITH BIRDFLESH FROM SWEDEN (MAY 2011)

    29 May 2011, 15:16

    1) First of all, I would like you to tell me something about your start, in 1992. Which music did you play at that time?

Adde: Well, we were just two boys in school who would love to be in a band. So me and my friend Alex decided to start Birdflesh. Alex had a guitar at home and there were instruments at our school that we could use for free. No one of us couldn’t really play at all. I guess we tried to play death metal, but I think it sounded more like punk. Our first bass player could actually play so he saved us from not quitting immediately.

    2) How did you ‘discover‘ grind, and which bands were your inspiration in this style?

Adde: A friend of mine showed me the Live Corruption video from Napalm Death and I was totally shocked. I couldn’t believe what I heard and saw. Then I heard the first Brutal Truth album and was shocked again. They really played faster than Napalm Death. Besides those two bands we were also inspired by Repulsion, Macabre, Morbid Angel and tons of others.

    3) Where did you start with using your funny disguises, and why? Do you think that it’s important to have fun at the concerts, and have some special masks to hold fan’s interest?

Adde: It was actually our bass player who came up with this stupidness. As I said, he was a real musician who could play, so he was kinda embarrassed playing with me and Alex. So he decided to wear a pyjamas and a mask on our first show. He said that he would only do one show with us because we sucked. But after the show one guy who played in another band, told us that we were great. So our bass player stayed in the band. And on the next show all of us used masks and funny clothes.
The masks helped us in the early days because our music was crap. So at least people could have fun with just watching us. I guess we can’t stop using them now. It’s our thing.

    4) Where did you start to cooperate with Obscene Productions? What did bring your band to this label, and how experiences do you have in this cooperation?

Adde: We had known Curby from Obscene for some years since we played his festival two times. And after our Mongo Musicale album we stopped the cooperation with our label. It felt natural to ask Curby if he would be interested in doing our next album. And he was really into it. He had been a fan of us for quite some time so he said yes. Everything has worked out perfectly.

    5) Could you tell me something about playing grindcore & deathmetal in Sweden? By that I mean, that many people in Czech Republic have big respect for northern music. Are you proud for your music-productive country? And which bands from north do you like to play with?

Adde: The swedish scene is special and it’s very hard to explain. It’s very hard for a new band to play here. Not much people would go to a show if they never heard about the band. And we have a lot of rules everywhere. You can’t sell beer at a show if you don’t have a permit, security people and a lot of other shit. And it’s expensive of course. That’s why smaller bands don’t come here so often. I’m proud of all the good bands that come from Sweden. There are too many to mention.
We have played with every band we wanted to play with. But we’d love to play with them all again.

    6) You have got over many famous action, for example Maryland Death Fest a Obscene Extreme Fest in Czech Republic. How are there experiences for your band? Do you always have a good time in these ‘large‘ actions, or do you prefer playing in the club?

Adde: Yes, both MDF and OEF is great everytime. The people who come to those festivals are the best and it’s a perfect opportunity to meet friends and fans. Playing in a smaller club can also be great. It’s different playing big stages because sometimes you don’t get that connection with the people. But if they stage dive like on OEF it’s no problem. Both kind of shows are great in their way.

    7) Which countries do you like the most to play in? Have you any special places, where do you like to come back again and again? Where have you met the maddest fans?

Adde: I would like to go to the US west coast. We have only played in Maryland in USA, and it’s always good. I know we have a lot of fans over there so it would be awesome to go there. I’d love to go back to Japan. We played there in 1999. We took our own money, payed the tickets and played five shows. It was crazy fun.
I really want to play in countries like Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia. I hope we will do it some day. There are crazy fans everywhere. When we played MDF the first time, we met a guy who drove 30 hours just to see our show. That’s mad! We love our fans.

    8) You have got over many succesfull split albums, for example with CARCASS GRINDER, SQUASH BOWELS, THE DEAD, THE KILL, EMBALMING THEATRE, CATHETER, SPLATTERHOUSE, and HATEBEAK. Which split albums were most exacting and why? How do you look at these bands and their successes now?

Adde: My favourite split is the Carcass Grinder. It was released shortly after our visit in Japan. And I think the songs are some of the best we ever did.
The pressing plant fucked up our side of the Squash Bowels split. It’s some noise going on through all of our songs. The songs were really good, but when we heard the record, we were very disappointed. We couldn’t understand what happened.
And the split with The Dead is quite crappy too from our side. We thought we were in a big hurry, so we recorded in five hours in our rehearsing room with really shitty equipment. The sound sucks. If I would have known that the split was going to be released much later than promised, we would have entered a proper studio. One song from this split is also on the Mongo Musicale album because we thought that song deserved a better recording. And there will be another song from this split re-recorded on the next album.
All our other splits are ok.

    9) Could you tell me something about your last CD, The Farmer’s Wrath (released in 2008, Obscene Productions) ? Personally, I consider it to be absolutely perfect! Have you met many positive ratings from your fans?

Adde: Cool that you like it. And we are happy with the result too. I haven’t actually heard that anyone think it sucks. Maybe some think it sounds too clear. It hasn’t that crushing grindcore sound, and I know what they mean. But in general, I think people like it. I hope.

    10) In this year, you have pass the tour with MACABRE and ROMPEPROP, along Europe. How did you arrange this tour, and how are your relations with these bands? Which gigs in this tour were the maddest and why? ( remark : you can answer this question when you’ll come back home from this tour, there’s no hurry J )

Adde: It was actually my other band, General Surgery, who were meant to be on this tour. But one of the guitar players couldn’t get off work, so Birdflesh were asked to join instead. The booking agency, Doomstar Bookings, are friends of mine and so are the Rompeprop guys. We had played with Macabre before and met them so we had to join the tour. The biggest problem was that our guitar player couldn’t go, so we had to find a stand-in guitar player. We asked a lot of friends, but no one could come because of work. Finally we found Elis, from The Arson Project and it worked out perfectly. He’s a great guitar player and friend so everything turned out fine.
The best shows were at Neurotic Deathfest, Holland, at the Warpurgis Fest, Germany and at Puntpop Fest in Belgium. Crazy people there. But also nice club shows in Germany, Czech Republic and Switzerland. We also played in our small home town and it was very good. Lots of old friends showed up and we had a blast.

    11) In the end, I can’t ask you about your opinion to Czech Republic, as regards fans, bands and music at all. Do you always get many positive receptions from fans, when you play here? And what about czech grind-core? Which bands do you like the most?

Adde: Yes, Czech Republic is always good. I think OEF has helped us to get a little famous there. And of course releasing an album on a czech label has helped too. But I like the atmosphere, people and the beer. I think everyone seems very relaxed. It’s just about having a good time. That’s exactly what I think too.
My favourite bands are Ingrowing, Needful Things, Malignant Tumour and BYT. I know there are tons of other bands that I can’t remember now but in average, czech music is good quality. Can’t wait to go back!

    12) Special question for you: I think it must be very hard to manage two bands, Birdflesh and General Surgery. How is it going? What about the rehearsals? How do you overtake it? Do you have any other bands or projects?

Adde: Sometimes the schedules collide and I have to choose. But most of the time there is no problem. Sometimes the promotor knows about the situation and book both bands for the same show.
Birdflesh and General Surgery does not live in the same city. So I only rehearse with General Surgery when we have a show or if we gonna enter the studio. Birdflesh rehearse only once a week. And that's why I joined another band here called Entrails. So I have three bands at the moment. But I'm not as busy as it sounds. I rehearse two times a week.
I used to play with a band called Jigsore Terror. We released one album on Listenable records in 2004, but we haven't played since 2007, when we played the Maryland Deathfest. That year I played with three bands, haha! That was crazy. I will never do that again.

    13) What about the name of your last CD, The Farmer's Wrath? How is your opinion on farming?

Adde: We live in the part of Sweden where we have a lot of farms. So bands from bigger cities like Stockholm or Gothenburg, call us farmers. And we have that accent when we speak.
So it felt natural to name our album The Farmers' Wrath.
I like farming in general. I live in a house near a farmer so there are cows in the back of my house. It's nice. But sometimes the air smells cow shit. That's the only bad thing.

Interview with Austrian deathgrind machinery Mastic Scum!!!
They have four records and now they working hard on the next album!!!

    Mastic Scum:
    vocal: Markus
    guitar: Harry
    bass: Alex
    drums: Man

    Karoline:
Hi Markus !!! How are you?

Maggo: Hello karoline ;-) I have some stress at work but i´m fine, thanx.

    Karoline:
And now, I would like to ask you on some questions about your band – MASTIC SCUM.
I like your band and I like your music so much. You make a perfect music and you have „face“ and style and it is very important for me, because of some band is handy, but boring, without good show and presentation.
So, tell me something about Mastic Scum. Your band was founded in 1992, is it true? Tell me about founding members Brothers Gandlers? How has changed the composition of the band over the years?

Maggo: thanx for the great words. Yes, mastic scum was founded in 1992 by harry and man gandler. Those two are one of the hardest working musicians i `ve ever meet. They love what they do and everything comes from the heart. All the music and performance is real and thats very important for me. The gandler brothers became one of my best friends in the last two years and im very proud to play and drink with them! :-D
Well i think the compositions changed a little bit from oldschool grind into a killing deathgrindmachinery :-D the new songs are more brutal and bit more complex but also with some massive grooving parts to break your fukking neck :-P

    Karoline:
How many records have you got?

Maggo: we´ve got 4 full lenght records and a lot of split releases ;-)

    Karoline:
Where you get your inspiration? Who are composed music and who writes the lyrics?

Maggo: we get our inspiration from the daily grind ;-) there`s so much bullshit going on so you have enough inspiration to make really brutal sound and lyrics. the mastermind behind mastic scum is harry, we writes the songs and the lyrics but we try to work a bit more together at the next album to reach ones again more progression and create songs which will blast you away! ;-)

    Karoline:
What is your favorite Mastic Scum‘ s song ???

Maggo: hmmm... i dont know exactly because there a lot of great songs i think. But maby „one-track minded“. It´s one of those song where my adrenaline level goes so fucking high that i have problems to bring it back to earth again ha ha...

    Karoline:
Are you planning a next video clip?

Maggo: No, we already made a videoclip for „construcdead“ this year and now we try to move on with the songwriting for the next album and mayby we can start with it next year if harry finally finds the right guitar sound. You have to know this can takes a looooooot of time :-D

    Karoline:
What bands do you like to listen?

Maggo: Boah, there a lot of great band if listen to. A lot of grind/deathgrind bands like nasum, pig destroyer, internal suffering and so on... but i also listen to old school hardcore like blood for blood, backfire, madball and finally also reaggae music ha ha ha...

    Karoline:
You are a vocalist of Inzest. What about another members of MASTIC SCUM? Have they some another music projects?

Maggo: Inzest is finally split up and also my other projects, i only do mastic scum anymore. For shure maby i start a new studio project because i wrote a lot of new inzest material which isn´t released yet or we use some of the material for the new mastic scum album, we will see...
In the past man plays drums at belphegor for five years and alex also play guitar in another band whos called days of loss.

    Karoline:
Now, tell me something about Amadeus Awards!!!? I am really curious. :-)

Ha ha... this was a really funny night. The show itself was a bit boring BUT the after show becomes absolutely crazy! There were so many people and alcohol as much you can drink for free!! And finally the party ends at a original vienna sausage stand ha ha ha... we didnt won the award but it was a hell of a party!!

    Karoline:
You and guys are from the same town? If you‘ re not, is it possible to get to regular rehearsals ???

Maggo: The other guys are all live in vienna exept me, i´m from tyrol. It´s about 500km far away from vienna but i dont need rehearsals because i know the songs :-P no only joking, the other guys practice a lot... and....ähhhh.... i do not, i know the songs ha ha ha.... but i will also move to vienna. So i also have to come to the rehearsals this year... shit... ha ha ha...

    Karoline:
What concerts you remember, because of some special situations and experiences?

Maggo: i think one of the best concerts till now was the gig in istanbul, there so many crazy fans and the all going cracy from the very first beginning of the show. And after the show we couldnt get off the stage as so many people pushed us back on the stage again to play one more song ha ha... it was a blast! We also meet a lot of very friendly people there and had a really great time.

    Karoline:
And what about Czech Republic? Do you like Czech fans etc.. ?

Maggo: yeah, i love concerts in czech republic and also the fan, they are really crazy and they all love grindcore music ha ha... everytime when we play in czech rebuplic we have so much fun with the people and also the beer is fukking great!!! And last but not least i also like one sexy photographer :-P

    Karoline:
I had the opportunity to meet you personally and even with another guys from Mastic Scum partly. You're nice people.
Thank you for play on our Adipocire festival in October. I hope to see you soon on the stage and under it, maybe on the bar :)

Maggo: it was also a blast to meet you and for sure we come back this year to destroy the czech republic again... and also the bar! :-D

    Karoline:
Thank you for this interview Markus. I wish you a lot of music experiences!

Maggo: i have to say thank you and wish you all the best in future!

    Griiiiiiiiiiiiiiind on!!!!

  • INTERVIEW WITH INHUMATE FROM FRANCE (DECEMBER 2010)

    9 Dic 2010, 18:04

At the beginning, I would like to praise your cool music, it's the perfect demonstration of perfect grind-core!! Well, how about your opinion on world's grind-core?

First of all, thanx a lot for your cool words about our music. Now we all four have our own feeling about the world wide grind core scene. Personnaly I'm not into the nowadays "fashion" grind core. I mean that I'm not following bands signed on Relapse. I prefer to find interesting bands by myself, still far away from what the establishment tells as good bands. I don't mean bands like ROTTEN SOUND, NAPALM DEATH, CATTLE DECAPITATION or GADGET are bad, just meaning that I think they don't bring fresh blood to theis music style. My last discovery is an Ukrainian band called EPICRISE. I think their music brings something new, of course production could be better, many things could be improved, but the most imortant is that the feeling they bring is novative ! And I think that this kind of bands is the future of the underground.

When did U started with playing grind-core, which bands were your inspiration?

INHUMATE was a death metal act in the beginning (1990). In that time we were influenced by the death metal scene as we were really not into punk / HC / grind scene... Things really changed when our second drummer Valentin joined the line up. He was a total fan of NAPALM DEATH and coulnd't imagine playing with us if there wasn't any blast beats. So inspiration bands for us became acts like NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, bit later BRUTAL TRUTH also,

Have U been playing in this group of people in the band, since the beginning?

No, the line up changed in the past. But note that from 1994 until 2007 it was the same ! 4 years ago David (guitar player from the beginning) left the band and Damien replaced him. He is the guy we needed, and now we can't imagine another line up change... Let's cross the fingers for everything goes alright in the future !

Do U think U have a good rear in France, as a grind-core masters? And how about other grind-core bands in France, do U have good relations with them?

Yes, we have good relations with other French grinding acts like BLOCKHEADS, SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION or INFEST, France is a big country, but small about everything concerning grind core. So, I think almost all underground bands know us in France. But if we compare this to the French global metal scene, I still think we're not that known because as we're not signed to a label, media don't care about us, we're not existing for them. France is a country in which you have to be signed if you wanna have a minimum of promotion. And we really don't care about that. We prefer our small underground status, than licking asses to be known.

How about your tour with Blockheads, in Czech Republic (this tour was composed by 3 gigs – Praha, Ceske Budejovice, Sokolov)? How did U enjoy playing here? Which gig was the best and why? And what about after parties here, did U like it?

About this mini tour, just one word comes to my mouth : perfect ! The dates were booked by Rob (INGROWING) and I have to admit that the job was perfectly done. BLOCKHEADS and us had a really good time on stages as well as during the parties (pubs open 24 hours a day, that's really cool ! We don't have that in France !). Czech Rep. is really a cool country for such underground brutal gigs. Also wanna say that the opening band on Thursday in Praha, DECOMPOSING MANURE, was a very good band ! I really enjoyed their music and look forward to their first release !

Could U compare French grind-core fans and Czech g-c fans? Were U satisfied with Czech fans?

First of all, I don't really ike the word "fan", because I consider myself as nothing more than a person that enjoys extreme music, and when I'm not on stage I'm in the pit. I don't know if my explanation is very clear hehe... If not, sorry... So, I think you can find some sick crowds in Czech as well as in France. If people don't become sick it's usually because the band is not doing it's job as it should. To be honest, when we play people often become crazy and that's the only for us. We can't imagine such a brutal music in front of a posing crowd....

Well, did the Czech fans make a good show, or there were ,,a posing crowd"?

The Czech crowd was perfect for the first and last date. Only the concert in Ceske Budejovice was a bit strange. Looks like if people couln't really get into our music. But it's no probelm at all, maybe weren't we sick enough !

As regards comparing the Czechs and the French, could U compare also Czech grind-core bands and French g-c bands? Do U think, that bands in our country have too much to improve, to get their music to world's distinction?

As I told it previously, I think that the media are not always showing the good way. For me the best grind core country in the world is Czech Rep. And believe me I'm serious. I remember very well back in 1996 when labels like LEVIATHAN and OBSCENE were first "big" label signing real underground grind core. There was nothing like them in the rest of Europe as far as I remember the situaion. Czech has always be in advance. There is also something I really enjoy in your country is that there gore or unpolitized scene is very active. World best gore grind band is Czechisn't it ? I mean JIG-AI. So, if I could talk to the whole Czech undergorund scene I would tell those band to go on grinding and don't fucking care about Earache ou Relapse... They deal with commerce, your UG deal with the guts of grind core : sickness !

Well, tell me something about your CDs. I know you have already got out fifth CDs, are there any special guests or helpers, who U are grateful to? How about your last CD, ,,"The Fifth Season"? In what is this CD different than your older CDs?

Yes, the "Fifth Season" is the fifth one, as the name says it. But we're working on a kind of concept that will be finished with our 7th album, so 2 more left. Back to the question, what changes with this album ? I don't really know... I think production is better and composition also changed a bit because half of the album was composed by Damien (playing guitar for 4 years with us now). But in the depths of music, nothing changes, we don't want to be an evoluating band. We play fucking sick music and that's all. Don't ait the moment when INHUMATE will change it's music into softer or melodic shit !

I know you have played already in many many countries like Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Poland, Germany, Italy, Austria, UK, Russia and Czech Republic, of course. In which country did U digest the best gig, as regards fans, clubs, good rear and party at all?

Best countries to play, especially for the audience is France and Czech... And beleive me I'm fucking honest. I would tell exactly the same thing if you were from Indonesia, Sweden or Marocco lol But we had also good expereinces in all countries, most important is hos serious the organing team is.

During your existence, you have played next to the very popular bands, like Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, Sepultura, Six Feet Under, etc. Which band took the best effect on U, as regards their behavior, their show, and so on? Have U digested any dissapointment with any of this bands?

It's a long time since we played with such big bands... But I don't keep any real good remembering of them... Only 2 guys were really cool, watching our show and talking with us about it, that were Alex (bass player from CANNIBAL CORPSE when we opened for them in 1996 I think) and Karl (from NILE). Other guys seems to play music as a job, and doesn't really interested in smaller band. But it's ok, as long as I don't give a fuck anymore to their music. Their bands were ok 10 years ago, nowadays the UG became a real scene and don't need those rock stars anymore to survive !

In conclusion, I'm sorry, but I can't not to ask U for something... Do your singer, Christophe, feel some health problems, when he beats his forehead by microphone, on concerts?

Ah, ah, ah ! That's the eternal question ! No, seems it's ok for him... But who knows if his brain's not going to corrode hehe

  • INTERVIEW WITH ULTIMO MONDO CANNIBALE FROM ITALY (OCTOBER 2010)

    17 Nov 2010, 13:56

•Firstly I would like to commend U for very high-quality porno grind, U have been making :-). Could U tell me, how was Ultimo Mondo Cannibale founded?

First of all thanx for your words and support!! UMC was born in 2005, we played before in a death metal band but we weren't so serious to play death metal ahah so we decided to create something different, something in which we can reflect ourselves too. I think every band shound't take itself so seriously, to have fun is always at first place!

•Is your title (Ultimo Mondo Cannibale) derived from the horror film The Last Cannibal World (Ultimo Mondo Cannibale, director: Ruggero Deodato)? Are U fans of famous Italian horror films creation?

Definitely, our band's name is a tribute to Impetigo and of course to Ruggero Deodato! I love the Italian horror stuff! We had and have great directors, surely you know some like Lucio Fulci, Joe D'Amato, Dario Argento, Mario Bava, Michele Soavi, Umberto Lenzi and maybe you know better than some Italians..and this is a crazy thing! They're better known and evalutated outside Italy I guess.

•Did U always want to play porno grind?

Well, when I starded playing I didn't know about pornogrind. But it was love at first heard!

•How about now, which bands do you listen to?

I like grindcore, goregrind, porngrind, crust core, some of punk hardcore, some of death metal but I also like different kinds of music. I like industrial, harsh, techno and electro stuff in general. So I can listen to Einsturzende Naubauten and Gut, The Sisters Of Mercy and Impetigo, Napalm Death and Aphex Twin! ahah

•Have U been playing in this group of people in the band, since the beginning?

Yes, we've only changed 1 member from the beginning. We had a new drummer since 1 year.

•How about your tour in this year, did U enjoy it? What gig from the tour was the best?

The tour was fucking sick! I really enjoyed everything, people, places and alcohol! I discovered new kind of acloholic called Borovicka in Slovakia.. some killer shit!!! And of course your Czech beer, one of the best I ever tasted. It's always a pleasure to play in Czech Republic, we only have great memories about gigs there like Obscene Extreme in 2009 and Fekal Party this year..really great amtosphere and friendly people!

•How about your out-fits? How did U chose them?

Well, it was a costume I made for one Halloween party many years ago, I just chosed to take this one for UMC. It's GORE enough I think!

•If U like porn as I know, could U describe your favourite scene from some porn :D?

One of the scene I like the best is from one Emanuelle's where a nurse give a blowjob in a train while her prioress was looking for her. And when later she found her, she asked the nurse: "where did you go??" and the nurse: "sorry mother but I was thirsty" ahah!!

•Are you proud of your CD Pornokult, you've got out in 2008?

Yes, Pornokult was our first CD and we're really happy of it because had been instinctive and direct. I think this CD reflects the real spirit of UMC, simple and groovy. We don't need to show how fast and how good we can play. I'm always seeing more competion through bands: "I must be faster, more technical, better than you". That's fucking STUPID in my opinion! Music should link people and not the opposite, especially in the underground where just few people can understand and appreciate your stuff. Also we don't want to comunicate something social or political with our music, we just want to have fun and talk about sperma and pussy!

•How about your next CD Drink my milk? How it'll be? Which label will get it out?

We're working on songs for this new cd right now. We have some ready, it will be 100% porn!! It will be out in 2011 for Rotten Roll Records.

•Do U like playing in Italy? How about your opinion on Italian grind-core? And how about opinion on Czech grind-core? Can U compare Italy and Czech rep. In this?

Playing goregrind in Italy is not so easy and good. We had many problems with some places because of our thematics. Here if you talk about porno you looks like a criminal or something like that. I don't know the situation in Czech, but it seems different from here. You've a bigger gregrind culture so I think Czech people can appreciate UMC's stuff better than Italians.

•What your gig was the best, where, why (from all you've played)?

Every gig has something special. We always have fun togheter and for every gig we remember something crazy. So I can't really choose one! Surely gigs in Czech Republic were some of the funniest.

•Have U guys any other bands, beside UMC?

I play in one grindcore/crust band too called Murders Calling. Also I have some other crazy gore projects like Putrid Whore and Clotpump and I started an Industrial/harsh solo project..but time is not so much! Vito has one crazy project too called Barbapapa Butchery while CristiAnus plays in two other bands called Putrid Fusion and The Hellmet.
