Just listened to Trans again... good album! But I can understand your reaction to it... sounds somewhat like Kraftwerk to these ears and that's a good enough start. In addition I think this album has a sincerity to it that many other 80s albums do not... can't explain it except by saying that I don't think Young was trying to latch onto a wave here. Besides I tend to like musical cheese. None of this of course means that anyone has to like it but it's why I do. ,-D

Wow, thank you for reading! Geddy was really nice. I'm not a music critic, just a journalist but it's usually more boring stuff than Rush :)

Just out of curiosity is 'Arc' on your Neil-list?

Ha. Youve been going good guns so I guess youve earned it. Let me know how your 90s experience goes when you get round to it

That's a fair comment. I see you're hitting Freedom. Enjoy that and the 90s.

Haha Trans. A lot of the stuff around that era was to do with communicating with his son. The repetition on Reactor and the vocoder on Trans were methods to communicate with his son who had cerebral palsy. I think that Trans makes a bit more sense in that context. This Notes for You! Ya know he won an MTV award for that one?

Oh, lol. Didn't scroll up far enough. I just saw that first 1 with the 50 artists on it & assumed U replaced it

Close? My nephew was about 5-6 pounds heavier. Didn't double him, but close

  • Rubberbandman16

Yeah, he made up some ground, lol. For comparison, my nephew, who's grown now, was 23 1/2 inches & 11 pounds 15 ounces. My sister couldn't deliver him normally obviously, lol. It had to be C-section. He was born in the month of June & the hospital said he was the biggest baby born in that hospital for the whole year til that point

How big was he when he was born? Inches & weight

Yep, I'm a stickler for correct tags, as I think U are. Oh, U don't have yet, just listening on Spotify or something?

    ayer por la mañana
  • Rubberbandman16

Actually, when I saw you playing it a few hours ago, I noticed that I had the wrong tag. Was listed as Deliver Us To Devil, lol. So I used the automatic scrobbler to put the right title in for the 2 plays I had.

Cool. Yeah Tonights the Night takes a bit of getting into. Young recorded it after the death of Danny Whitten from Crazy Horse (Neil blamed himself) so the production on TTN is pretty much non existent. There's an anecdote from Nils Lofgren about learning the tracks. THey'd be playing a song Nils would be thinking he's just about getting then Neil would announce that was the take they were going to cut and and they were moving onto the next song haha.

Nice work. How's the journey going so far? I see you've managed to get through to Everybody's Rockin! How did that one work out? I like the Geffen albums. Old Ways is solid. Everbody's Rockin is a lark-about. Geffen told him to make a rock n roll album so he made a 1950s style rock n roll/rockabilly album...don't ask Neil for it cos you'll sure get it. I like Trans too. Not all of the tracks work but Sample & Hold and Like an Inca stand out. Life (hard rock)...This Notes for You (blues) are both decent. Landing on Water might be my least favourite Neil album though. Aside from a couple of tracks its kinda bland synthed up hard rock. So no I don't think the Geffen albums are that bad at all. There's a good compilation of those albums called Lucky Thirteen. That may be on Spotify although I'm not sure.

Got mashed potatoes! I'll tell you the great thing about this song is that if you sing along to it you are certain to really irritate your listening audience - - it's wonderful for that!

btw, Trans is New Wave-ish but Reactor flat out rocks. I can see why Trans isn't considered as being a particularly good album (though as I said, I like it) but it baffles me how Reactor is not more appreciated. Southern Pacific... Shots... Opera Star (love the lyrics :you were born to rock, you'll never be an opera star)... Surfer Joe... great album. Actually it's T-bone that is kinda questionable at 9 minutes - but it's a decent jam.

I knew Carrie was in Portlandia but I hadn't seen it until you mentioned it... and then I looked at some youtube clips. Yeah she is funny... and so is that Fred dude. I had the urge to hear Neil's Trans album today (I gravitate toward his "lesser" albums) but forgot that it's not on Spotify... I have it on iTunes and I think I'll fire that up tomorrow. Since we're talking Neil and S-K here is a clip of S-K and some other band, I can't recall now though maybe you know of them playing Rockin in the Free World And I suppose this goes for most bands but there are a ton of great S-K clips on youtube including one of them playing Rock Lobster lol. For that matter there is is a clip of them (not live unfortunately) playing a song with Fred Schneider about a sex change operation gone wrong... good stuff.

Cool! I was just getting into the band when they broke up... kinda took my enthusiasm away... I'm very glad they're back. I see you're playing a lot of Neil Young - an album that has a pretty bad rep (lol) but I think is one of his best is Reactor - - and it has a song called T-bone!

And I've got Peter, Paul & Mary and Judy Collins... folk thing today... I sense some Kingston Trio coming on...

I'll need to revisit the Sumac albums... from what I recall my favorite is called Inca Taqui though I don't have scrobbles for it since for whatever reason it is included on Spotify in the Voice of the Xtabay album... actually I thought I had one of them as AOTY but nope not yet anyway.

    Viernes por la noche
  • stupidstuff

Yeah better leave the X there then. lol

    Viernes por la noche
  • stupidstuff

Yes I've heard Yma Sumac, and I do like her music quite a bit, The first I heard of her was a mention by The B-52's when they were asked what they were listening to in the time right before they started their band. Sumac was one of the colorful musical entities mentioned...

Can you see the album cover thingy on your page at the top of the sidewall? It's an X for me and was the same on my page... so I took it off.

  • stupidstuff

Well cool then... and I did like the Black Eyed Peas back when I first heard them... interesting to listen to an early album and see if I still think they were OK back then.
