Metal BoxA mixture of messy and what appear to be half arsed first takes of skeletal ideas that somehow combine to form a very very interesting album.
This album has *those* moments, where every element seems to just ping harmoniously making for compelling listening. Lydon's voice does of course grate abrasively throughout, but the foundation created by Keith Levene's dark and metallic guitar treatments, and Wobble's simplistic yet solid basslines provide the perfect accompaniment to such a harsh and intense vocal delivery.
Track down the Death Disco 'megamix' single for an extra minute or two of the Swan Lake / Death Disco take - still the most haunting moment of the
post-punk era output (which also has an alternate version of 'Fodderstompf' on the flip). Also a rare track 'Pied Piper' was issued on a Virgin compilation
(Metal Machine Music?) that was also from the Metal Box era sessions.
