Thu 28 Oct – The Duke and The King

    The Wardrobe, Leeds, UK.

This is the second time I have seen the Duke and The King this year, Simon Felice has undergone open heart surgery in the intervening period. Last night he was back with a vengeance exhibiting the passion of a man who knows he has been given a second chance in life.

The Wardrobe is a great little venue and its a rare treat to see a band of such high quality in such an intimate setting.

If you haven't caught on to The Duke and the King yet you are missing out, think Sly and the Family Stone meets Dylan meets Neil Young meets the Isley Brothers all sitting round a camp fire in the Catskill mountains.

They really are that eclectic and, in truth, you can't categorise them. They seem to have taken all of the best bits of popular American music and fused them into their own package. All four members of the band could (and do) front it, they all have voices sent from heaven and use them to sing songs about real American lives of struggle, love , destitution and hope.

Imagine all of this washed down with a couple of pints of English cask ale ! A great night.

By the way, I think I've fallen in love again, Simi Stone, like the man said, Sounds good and looks good too.

Make no mistake, this band are a force to be reckoned with and as the title of the new album exclaims 'Long Live the Duke and the King'The Duke And The King[event=]Thu 28 Oct – The Duke and The King[/event]
