Sir Tecu, oh, it looks like your new shoutbox would make a good read. Lots of good debate? I'll have speed read through the whole thing one of these days. *twirls*

Imaginary persons debate, part 203: I think it's awfully human-centric of you to assume that this alien/god wouldn't feel an immediate affinity for Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin were bombastic and epic, Thor is bombastic and epic. If Natalie Portman were your earth girlfriend, you'd get familiar with her planet's popular culture. Also, Led Zep is widely regarded as the third greatest rock outfit of all time, I don't think it's a far jump to "music so universal, even aliens enjoy it."

Nick Fury talked about flying monkeys and Captain America understood the reference but Thor didn't. Maybe i'm looking too deep into it but now that i had to think about this no, i don't think it would've been right to give Thor the song.

Now were splitting ideas of what the song represents, again i haven't listened to it and i'm not big on norse mythology. Diabeticus is taking it's proper context of the mythology seeing if it intertwines properly with Marvel's Thor. Katherine is taking the idea of what we expect from business and seeing how it can make a quick buck. It gets kind of hazy on my side, taking Tony Stark and seeing the personality they developed for him on the films it's apparent that he the type that would like classic rock and knows how they reference his alter-ego as Iron Man i'm pretty sure that he would wear a Black Sabbath shirt to poke fun at that. Sort of like how i wear Mario game products because my name is Mario, it's about the only reason i wear such things. Thor on the other hand is an alien to earth and wouldn't have close affiliation with Led Zep music and to appropriate it with him would seem a little of, like how...

I concede that Immigrant Song isn't specifically about Thor, but come on. "Hammer of the Gods"? I would think that some enterprising marvel automaton would say "Did you see the grosses on Iron Man? We made bank capitalizing on a Black Sabbath song about time travel and Ozzy's inferiority complex. We should pay Robert Plant more money than god and maximize our crossover geek appeal. Vikings. Close enough. A-ah-ahh-ah, ah-ah-ahh-ah!" Or something. Fantastic song.

Immigrant song is one of the best songs ever written. I have an unhealthy obsession with Nordic mythology. I would argue that while Immigrant song make references to Valhalla and Mjollnir, it isn't really Thor's them song. He never went to Valhalla. Instead I would say simply that this is the song of any Viking in search of glory and treasure the the thrill of battle. How can one not love music referencing vikings or mordor?

Immigrant Song is the most popular song that I can think of that directly references Valhalla, hence its appropriateness?

Wow. I listed 6 semi-ridiculous topics, hoping that one would take your fancy, and you responded to ALL of them. I don't even know where to begin. Um. . . suction spears, I approve.

Conóceme

The little thing of adorable in my pic is my niece.

Been on this site since 2006 but, being the podunk loser I am, i deleted my old account with the same name.

If music is supposed to make you feel
then the music you hate has done its job

Music is just like children,
you may think yours is special,
but in reality
it isn't
