As lame as I think those "bands that I like" journal entries are, I think that it's probably more worthwhile to catalog one's wandering interests over time. Every so often I discover new artists, and old artists fade out.
The first band I'd like to plug is the Mad Caddies. They're all ska-punky, and it's nice and technically smart. Check their wikipedia entry. I've also been listening to Catch 22, but I like them a bit less. They seem a lot less instrumentally focused, and their live recordings sound like crap (then again that could be a function of what I have).
I've also been keeping up on the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Less Than Jake, and Mustard Plug, but that's old hat. The Daddies still amaze me. Finally, I've also played some Five Iron Frenzy and Green Day. Don't worry, I was listening to Kerplunk! and Nimrod, which are more historically interesting than American Idiot.
Finally, I think that whole "familial revolution" is a whole bunch of crap, I can still listen to music. Odd.
