Toronto band. Debut LP produced by Morrissey guitarist BOZ BOORER at Serra Vista Studios in Portugal. Album release date September.18th,2012.
Shoot The Image are a new Toronto band and their debut album, Cranes In The City, will be released digitally on Aug. 21, 2012 and physically on Sept. 18, 2012 on Aporia Records.

Although Shoot the Image is a band of the new millennia, remaining shadowy and avoiding naming band members, preferring to be scene as one unit, their story began the old-fashioned way–on a drunken night out with friends. In 2009, the female lead singer spontaneously broke out into Nina Simone’s song “My Baby Just Cares For Me” at an afterparty and jaws hit the table. Her musician friends – with over 20 cumulative performing years between four members - immediately picked up ProTools and began to put together some initial demos.

The recording of what would become Cranes In The City began with a chance MySpace meeting with Boz Boorer who is the guitarist, co-writer and musical director with Morrissey, founding member of The Polecats. For a year, the band and Boorer sent messages back and forth with Shoot The Image sending various recommendations for bands and films for him to check out. In time, Shoot The Image booked their first overseas gig - an acoustic show at the legendary 12 Bar Club in London, UK - and invited Boorer to come. To the band's surprise, he showed up and after a few pints, they hit it off. He invited them to record in his studio in Portugal where Boorer has worked with a bevy of artists including Adam Ant, Morrissey, Edwyn Collins, David Bowie, Lily Allen, Madness.

“At this point, the band really only existed on a laptop,” said Shoot The Image. “All of us are huge Morrissey fans so obviously not only meeting one of your heroes but having him the opportunity to have him produce your debut album was mind blowing.”

They spent three weeks, recording twelve to fifteen hours a day, deep in the Monchique Mountains at Serra Vista Studio.

“We were very nervous arriving in Portugal. Although we had already met him and spent a night drinking, here we all were suddenly across the ocean and about to record an album with him? Crazy,” said Shoot The Image. “Both Boz and his wife Lyn are amazing people and made us fell at home, right away. We spent our days recording from noon until 4am taking breaks to eat great food, drink wine, and have a few laughs. We really could not have asked for anything better and it was amazing to work with a producer of his caliber.”

Boorer intuitively understood where Shoot The Image was coming from and where the band wanted to go, sonically.

“It was simple to find the right sounds as I understood the sounds that they could hear in their heads,” said Boorer. “It was fortunate, really. That’s why I think we were brought together - it was simple to suggest things that fit, that worked well with the songs.”

Boorer is confirmed to produce the band’s sophomore album in the beginning of 2013.

“For those who like their Indie with dramatic narratives, Cranes in the City,
is definitely worth a listen.” - Counteract Magazine

“With a very unique sound almost reminiscent of The Smiths combined with new wave Brit-pop/mod-rock, they blew my mind and were nothing like I would have expected. With extreme energy coming from every member of the group they were a total
treat to watch and I would go see them again in a heartbeat.” - We Nom Music
