Fix your iPod by throwing it away... Literally?

Now I'm not a fan of Blogging, at all... but...

Appears on my iPod screen randomly after totally locking up for no apparent reason, and wouldn't reset, or go into disk mode.

Tried the usual "leave battery to drain and recharge" trick, and still, wouldn't go into disk mode... so after about 48 hours, I got a bit fed up, and pelted the damn thing against my sofa (wouldn't want to mark it of course) and to my surprise, the backlight kicks on, apple logo glows on the screen, and Goo Goo Dolls' Iris comes back on, exactly where it stopped to begin with...

Now i'm sure it's just got something to do with jolting the hard drive back to life, but was wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen?

If not, it's just pure insane luck... Lol...

mine did the same thing, when it died. i lightly dropped it onto my carpet from about 6 inches off the floor and it came back. and you're right. it's becuse a switch in that is connected to the harddrive is slightly lose or out of place. so dropping/throwing it lightly can sometimes flick it back into place. but for people reading this--DON'T THROW/DROP IT TOO HARD. cause then you're just dumb. alright. happy podding/lastfming!

4.5 gen - The 60gb Photo... Just got back from a night out, and it died again, the throwing trick worked again, but i'm just hoping this isn't going to be a regular occurrance... It's a replacement for the iPod I sent back for battery replacement just before the end of my warranty, so only had a 90 day warranty on this one, which ran out a couple of weeks ago :-(

the reason behind this working is that hard drive interface became a bit disconnected, or that the hard drive head got a bit off course, either one could cause your problems. you can usually wack it back into place by flipping it upside down and giving a nice smack to the palm of your hand when the drive is spooling up....or by throwing it across the room :)

Argh this happened to me in pretty much the same circumstances. I fixed the HD problem by opening it up and attaching it properly, but it then developed another weird fault and now only plays or connects to a PC from a full drain/charge... so I got an iRiver instead, hard as nails.
