Sorry it took me so long to reply, I was finishing up my studies and then I was away for a bit (I'm done now! Yay, on to not knowing what the hell to do with myself). But your mother is totally correct, she did become a caricature of herself. It became especially evident on ADP (Programmable Soda seems to consciously acknowledge her slippage into self-parody, as did the "Tori" doll, complete with garish orange wig). I'm very pleased that she appears to have pulled herself out of that string of embarrassments (2007-2011 were dark times in Tori fandom, indeed). I love her look in that video too, she does come off like an art history professor and seems like she'd be fun to be around. Have you heard the album yet? It's actually quite good overall. I really like Wild Way, 16 Shades of Blue, Weatherman, Oysters, Invisible Boy (very Moments of Pleasure though), and aspects of the title track. The rest range from good to unnecessary (Promise and Giant's Rolling Pin being the worst offenders).

Yes, it's a solo tour, which I am so excited for. I'm surprised that she's not playing Helsinki again, didn't she open the 2011 tour there? (I have a boot somewhere, loved the arrangements of Suede and Cruel with the quartet). Speaking of playing solo, she performed a solo version of Trouble's Lament on French TV yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH69XxWwHuo This arrangement is more sinister than the album cut (WHY did she replace the piano in the verses with guitar...).

Haha, yes it's a very sex-heavy album. I think Aphrodite was more of an artistic statement, but I like the buoyancy of this LP. She always has great tours so I suspect this one will deliver the goods on that front. Yes, I love the glasses and wiglessness of this era so far. She also seems a lot more relaxed and less pretentious this time around. It is so refreshing after, like you mention, the photoshop/botox disasters of AATS and MG. I hated the artwork for NOH too, but a lot of the album (and great tour) made up for it.

ALSO: thoughts on Unrepentant Geraldines (album artwork, TL, Selkie)? I am really loving this era so far. I think Selkie is wonderful, Trouble's Lament is good, and she looks and sounds fabulous. I am also going to be seeing her for the first time on this tour, so I'm looking forward to that.

Conóceme

Hi there.

I'm an English linguistics major with interests akin to the social life of languages. I also enjoy learning about the Nordic languages, sociology, cultural history, art history & theory and Italian. A total tea nerd who is learning more about coffee, too. I am happy when I can put on my brogues and still wear a duffle coat with them. I love to cook and bake, rest my eyes on (and wear) different shades of blue and sip a good g&t every now and then. I would like to read and knit more. As to my music preferences, well, just gear your gaze to the left. Cheerio!
