Hey Ken, I've been listening to more and more albums by 人間椅子 lately. Do they only sell shirts at live shows? I'd love to own one, but I can't find anywhere to buy one. :(

Ooo, thanks! I always wondered what the back story of that release was. The history of many japanese heavy metal bands is largely unknown to foreigners, I think...

Also, I was wondering why there is no mention of 人間椅子's debut album on their website... I don't hear a very large change in sound on 人間失格, so I don't think it's due to any sort of problems with the music...

lol, yes, I remember thinking that bands like Rosenfeld, Aion, Rommel etc looked a lot like hair metal bands with a bit of a tougher image. I don't mind that though -- I like ridiculous things sometimes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PNdv6R48eE <-- Izumi probably has the biggest mohawk I've ever seen here!

Hehe, that actually reminds me how I always see tons of women in videos for Japanese metal shows... Much more than in most North American videos. I actually think I see less men than women in many of my Gargoyle DVDs. One of my bootlegs from 1987 sounds like nothing but women in the crowd, and that was when the band had a lot of influences from hardcore punk!

I know that some visual kei bands are actually very good; the originators of the style especially. The origins of it are rather complex anyway; a combination of both band's desired images, a certain ideology and even a bit of marketing. I was talking about the bands you say suck, basically, not the ones that wrote incredible music.

Hehe, yeah, I noticed their lyrics are sometimes pretty silly. You're right about the Sex Machineguns influence as well; I think they mention it on their Myspace.

His highest falsettos remind me of Joe Yamanaka, actually. Also, would you say the title "生命ゆかし 生命長し" would be read as "Inochi Yukashi Inochi Nagashi" then? (I don't know what "yukashi" means, so I'm not sure if thats a clue or not as to the reading).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pboAmV0JvjY (Yes, they look a bit silly, but the music is good). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHvaWweo6Lo <--- Im not very fond of the growled vocals, but this is otherwise very epic power metal.

Ah! I never knew that; thank you very much! As for weeaboos, they're generally just annoying. It's funny how so many visual bands try to look "original" and "unique", yet when I look at live houses where a lot of them are playing they all look the same. As for actual good japanese metal though, I recently discovered a very young band (they're still in highschool) that have an incredible vocalist (he has a very wide range and can hit very, very high notes) and solid musicianship.
