ZZ top in Kelowna

Thu 8 Jul – Rock The Bluff

My father managed to get the family tickets to this event, so when the concert was at hand we drove down quite early to see all the opening acts and eat french fries/donuts out of those travelling van/trailer things.

The opening acts were alright, but, in truth most bored me. I did like Crop Circle mainly for the song Mexican Cockfight and some choir/symphony from Calgary was cool. I forget what they were genre wise exactly.

But the real thrill by far was when ZZ Top took the stage.ZZ Top had some inventive suits on – haha. Really shiny stuff. We sat quite far back, This was before I had gotten my glasses so it's a shame knowing I could have possibly seen better.

Although it didn't seem to matter to many people at this outdoor event. People seemed to shove their way upfront regardless of where they paid for seating. If I wasn't so polite, I'd probably have done the same thing. But I was kind of mad at people for doing that.

ZZ Top were promoting their album Mescalero. I'd say the crowd was about 12,000 and took place on The Bluffs overlooking Kelowna. I can't really recall the setlist but I remember hearing Viva las vegas,Sharp Dressed man,Cheap Sunglasses,Gimme All Your Lovin',Tush, Legs and La Grange. I can't recall more than that, I wish I could but ah well.

However, the parking sucked, since there was no real formal parking lot. Just a plot of land and only one exit/enterance. Yes, it acted as both an enterance and exit. Just to leave the parking lot took probably 2 hours. But, it was worth it in the end.

Overall it was a really fun night, and ZZ Top didn't talk to the audience too much but they don't seem like talkers too much anyway. Nor did I mind, they just introduced song after song. They let the music do the talking, (Just like Joe Satriani whom I'd see a year later).

Aside from the parking – and people crowding and bum rushing to the front of the stage. It was a good concert just could have been organized better.

Evanescence with Seether were to perform the following day. They were apart of the same festival but seperate days and requiring seperate tickets too. I am not an Evanescence fan and heard they were booed at. Harsh, but funny.

Note:I looked at setlists within a few days around the same time, and they seem to be fairly accurate to what I heard (They didn't have the Kelowna set list). They were all identical (Even in song order) but one concert didn't hear Manic Mechanic so that's the only track I am not sure I heard, but given that it was one concert that reported not hearing it at the time. It's a safe bet that I did. So I'll put an * beside it.

Setlist:

1.Got Me Under Pressure
2.Pincushion
3.Waitin' for the Bus
4.Jesus Just Left Chicago
5.I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide
