I don't like live music because it usually involves going to seedy bars with an audience of zombies – that glazed-eye dead look that makes party photos so creepy to look at anytime after the event – that don't appreciate the performance. Luckily for me I live in Austin.
The Armadillo and Christmas go together naturally if you live in Austin. The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is, in my humble opinion, the best live music event in the world. The Armadillo is the most unseedy modern day event that you could take your Prohibitionist grandmother (complete with signed pledge in the family Bible) to. There is beer, but the many walks of life that come don't get inexcusably drunk. The music sounds awesome without the need of booze. I happened to see Carolyn Wonderland this year at the Armadillo and she was amazing!
The first thing I noticed was her hair. I'm not an expert in hair because I'm a guy, but this hair was radiating with health. The guy next to me mention that she was looking very healthy. He sensed that that kind of remark is rather creepy without any additional insight and went on to explain Carolyn had resolved some troubles in her life.
I couldn't imagine such a meek and bashful lady having a troubled life. Looks are deceiving because the world is full of trouble and Carolyn Wonderland has worked on righting-the-wrongs through her gift of writing music and playing her guitar. Her bashfulness evaporates as soon as she starts playing her guitar. She is full of personal convictions and you can feel it in her music.
I can't do her any justice with my poor writing skills. You should go out and discover her because she's a treasure in Texas.
