Thu 26 May – Face to Face, Strung Out

darlings- socal band of young guys obviously influenced by strung out... not bad, but, not fantastic, either...

blitzkid- west virginia group of guys obviously influenced by misfits... was pleasantly surprised, quite melodic and very fast...

strung out- hadnt seen them since probably late middle/early high school... they were pretty good, very energetic, and can still turn out metally melodic hardcore... only issue was jason cruz's vocals werent turned up loud enough, and he could barely be heard the whole show...

face to face- a-fucking-mazing!... seamless transition from record to live on stage... trevor has a great voice, and shiflett is one of the most badass bassists in punk rock... every song is full of energy, to the point, and fun to singalong and bounce around... they started out with "should anything go wrong" and went right into "you've done nothing", it was perfect... they played about 4 songs off the new record, and they are awesome... i was leaving as they played "disconnected" one of my all time favorite punk songs, and i left with a huge smile on my face...
  • so much stoner rock...

Tue 3 May – Young Widows, My Disco

a local band hawks played to start- its kinda like if mastodon were covering coalesce songs, and not doing it justice...

my disco an austrailian trio got kinda boring pretty quick... just long jammy noodling from the guitarist that just keeps going, i did like the bassist's basslines he was playing, though...

young widows put on a pretty good live show... i was a little unhappy with the fact that they seemed to be playing more stoner rock/jammy themed stuff and not more of the post-hardcore vibe i wouldve liked, but, i enjoyed them nonetheless...

Thu 24 Mar – An Horse, Sealions

a the color- i think thats what they were called anyway... really, really bad... like some kind of hipster stoner rock, with a horrible, no personality lead singer...

sealions- my first time hearing them... really good... reminded me of an updated version of new wave/post-punk...

an horse- never fail to put on a great show... they played most of rearrange beds, and are only a few shows in playing new material of an album due next month... pretty small crowd, but, it was late on a school night, so most the kids were gone...
minus the shitty opening guys, sealions and an horse played a great show...An Horse

Fri 25 Feb – Full Collapse Tour

what a fucking magical fantastic night...

a skylit drive- mediocore hot topic keyboardy emocore fake metal bullshit that kids too young to know any better eat up... yawn...

animals as leaders- interesting... all instrumental proggy, mathy, techy metal type tunes from guys with guitars with a shitload of strings on them, with a backdrop screen of in time effects going while playing, entertaining and pretty good...

thursday- i could go on a long rant about how fantastic this was, but, i'll sum it up... i was hoping that full collapse would be played in its entirety... and it was... in order... absolutely amazing... quite possibly the best show i've been to... take a lesson kids, thats how you do post-hardcore...

underoath- again, yawn... if you've seen one christian, keyboardy metalcore band, you've seen them all... left after about 3 songs, i was there for thursday...

Thu 17 Feb – Glassjaw, Tidal Arms, These People

went with a friend of mine and a couple of his buddies, got there late and missed 1st band, then saw about 3 or 4 songs of i think these people... odd fit for the bill, very jam band-y, almost like a phish trying to cover mars volta or something...

i guess nostalgia aint what it used to be as they say, because glassjaw arent nearly the same force from years ago... it was alright, crowd as always at their shows are very active, but, it just seems like glassjaw now are just a watered down version of what i remembered them as... to me now, they sound exactly like the deftones most of the time... i enjoyed coming full circle to see daryl palumbo again after so many years passing from the last time, but, not really the same anymore... plus, no "ape dos mil" or "cosmo. blood loss" which really dampened my experience...

Tue 1 Feb – NOFX, Bouncing Souls, Cobra Skulls, Old Man Markley

awesome set, despite a very under the weather fat mike, and the most dickhead, ass holeish crowd i've ever seen... some guy threw a ham sandwich at fat mike on stage...and with his sister in the audience, he played "orphan year", which was a really special thing to be a part of, and mike had to step off stage briefly to collect himself after playing it, and people were shouting shit and just really mocking everything that makes fat mike who he is... prob. had something to do with a skinhead or two that were there antagonizing mike... played alot of fav's though... lots of punk in drublic and some oldies white trash, two heebs...

bouncing souls were hit or miss, not their best set, but, true believers is just amazing every time, hopeless romantic is always good, and there were a couple nice ones like lamar vanoy and east coast, fuck you!...

cobra skulls i seem to enjoy more as i've seen them now twice live... its like a more sped up version of against me with plenty of rancid/clash elements... plus, they did a really badass version of bad religion's "give you nothing"...

old man markley was pretty cool... almost like lucero covering flogging molly, or basically an american bluegrass version of flogging molly type tunes...

Fri 10 Apr – The Appleseed Cast, An Horse

i know this is old, but, here goes a little review of the show...

blue moon awakening- got there as they were mostly into their set, meh... some kinda weird techy tunes w/ a synth and playing heavy stuff...

the natural- pretty bland stuff... singers' voice was terrible, some kind of bad power pop stuff...

swank hotel- a very, very blatant ripoff of the strokes, i mean like plagiaristic... and not very good...

an horse- the best time of the night... a duo, austrailian, girl w/ guitar, and guy on drums... very good stuff, catchy angular guitar riffs, and really sweet harmonies and good lyrics, need to get album from them...

appleseed cast- eh, was good, but, i was kinda let down... i guess i had this notion that they would blow me away, and i was only slightly pushed... dont get me wrong, i enjoyed them, i love the loud atmospheric swirls of guitars and its good grown up indie rock tunes, but, i guess i was expecting something even more...
