Thu 26 Jul – Beasts of Bourbon

On their first European tour supporting brand new album Little Animals Australian veterans The Beasts Of Bourbon suffered a modest turn-out and terrible support bands before they’d even played a note.

The high ticket price probably didn’t help persuade people to come out on a Thursday night, and the support line-up did them no favours at all. Horrendous indie rockers The Sam I Am no doubt left the room cold (although I wasn’t present to confirm that). Interestingly ridiculous ’50s-style rock ‘n’ roll outfit Jim Jones Revue proved a big hit. Well, with everybody else anyway. Much jiving ensued amongst the sea of plastic quiffs.

The Aussies did bring the remainder of the audience in from the bar on cue, and began in subdued fashion, and it was pleasing to see that not one of them looks like the killer from Wolf Creek. The appreciative crowd seemed to have about as much energy as a wind turbine in a vacuum right up until main-set closing trio Master & Slave, Hard For You and new album highlight New Day of The Dead. Even the vicious opener from the new album I Don’t Care About Nothing Anymore did very little to get the crowd moving.
