Well, that's a very interesting take on the Glass & Reich phenomenon of popularity. I'll give it some thought, and check some related data concerning them. Although I sympathise with what you're saying, I can still think of a few things that Glass & Reich did, which I enjoyed. With Glass, it was "Satyagraha", and with Reich, it was "Come Out To Show Them". But what I think happened to Glass & Reich may be more mundane: They became the 'darlings' of the record company elite, and the record companies milked it for all it was worth, deluging the public with the endless bleating of their sycophants. My main gripe, however, is with the concept of 'star', not as a astronomical object in the cosmos, but the end result of interminable hyperbole. I find this to be primarily evident in the USA, but I believe it can happen anywhere, unfortunately. As long as cash is king, and people sell the arts like snake oil, this will happen. Ugh...

Yeah, Philip Glass just milked the 'cash cow' for 'self serving' purposes. Lamonte Young & Terry Riley took what Ives, Feldman, Cage et al initiated & unfortunately placed it in the hands of Reich, Glass etc who 'popularised' it 'cos they knew damn well that their personal profiles could be created indelibly through association with true pioneers & therefore be considered pioneers themselves...
