Team Sleep is the side project of Chino Moreno, lead singer with Deftones, and as such, you'd expect it to be pretty hardcore, with lots of screaming and such. Not so, because this project was designed to explore the mellower, ambient side of his songwriting, and there can be no finer example of this than "Ever".
Moreno's singing is unmistakable, and the sound is vaguely reminiscent of the way that Deftones drifted on tracks like "Minerva". There's no doubting that this is definitely a mellower take, however, and one that Deftones fans would likely not swallow easily had it come from the more significant band.
All-in-all, I'm not sure if this will make it into Martin's Best of 2006, but its an outside bet. Sit back, relax, and give it a listen anyway.
