‘I want to see you warriors’

Fri 19 Jun – Live In The Park The electronic pioneers pulled out a stunning performance last night in Newcastle, their second act in Ireland (today playing Slane) with a set ranging from classics such as ‘Their Law’ and ‘Breathe’ to the new chart topping tracks ‘Warriors Dance’ and ‘Invaders Must Die’. Welcomed after a much dragged out intermission which included a hefty amount of pushing even before they got on stage, many were left anxiously trying to prepare for more. Dehydrated and enthusiastic to dance in a sweaty yet hyped up crowd they entered the stage with security forced to grab many of the people from the front out. With mosh pits forming in every song they showed up all the other acts that were performing during the day. Other acts included ‘Deadmau5’, ‘The Japanese Popstars’, ‘Noize Control’ with both ‘Hot Chip’ and ‘Zane Lowe’ performing a DJ set. The boasted sunny sea side resort for a day dealt to loud bass and an alcohol fuelled crowd ready to go absolutely nuts as they filled the grounds of Donard Park. Yet the council’s expectations of a troubled night were nonexistent, the crowd was just ecstatic to listen and dance along to their favourite acts. Zane Lowe’s DJ set was phenomenal itself, getting a big crowd reaction with hits from the ‘The Arctic Monkeys’ and ‘Rage Against the Machine’ being mixed together forming a lot of crowd movement. ‘The Japanese Popstars’ lead by the day’s presenter voicing that “they were presenting us all around the world” are a local act from Derry. They put on a thrilling performance with ‘Rise of the Ulysses’ getting the most reaction. ‘Noize Control’ who arrived first on stage landed with the intention to get everyone off their feet, though most people felt that sitting down was much more of a better approach as they waited for the bigger acts to get on. The DJ set performed by ‘Hot Chip’ wasn’t as expected and was too laid back, but all changed after as ‘Deadmau5’ with his popular mouse hat entered the stage to get the crowd moving again. All in all this was breathtaking gig and a great day out – this hope that Newcastle can get more gigs on the go in the future!
