Can the soulful riddums of Ska and Reggae ever be matched? Can masters of the genre such as Alton Ellis, Sir Lord Comic, Desmond Dekker and Derrick Morgan really change a young man's life? Yes. The delectable sounds of Long Shot Kick De Bucket by The Pioneers to the frantic Want Me Cock by Owen & Leon Silvera. Ska and early Reggae have inspired me to look for the fun and excitement in the world. What other genre could get you up and dancing even if you have the co-ordination of a gibbon? A Genre that took hold of a generation of young white youths and helped them love their brothers and sisters across the globe. Groundbreaking music that was new and exciting and made England a cultural melting pot in the 60's. The fashion, the sounds, the unity. What a time to be in. If i was to say "Skinhead", you would assume "Thug" or "Hooligan" to be mentioned also. In the early days you couldn't be farther from the truth. Why does everyone perspective of the Skinhead movement have to be violent? People just don't get it. When they here my taste of music and the "Skinhead" problem comes up. I've even started to wear what you would call early Skinhead fashions such as Button down shirts, Gibson shoes, Harringtons, levi 501's, Trilbys and Braces. And for what end? To be labelled a thug and a Nazi? Its not what the music stands for! So, can Ska change a young boy's life? Yes, It makes me happy and refreshed, but it can get you unwanted labels from uneducated bastards. So Mister uneducated bastard… check your facts and listen to some better music!
