Guns N Roses top listeners radio

PREVIOUS ENTRIES:

Metallica:PART I and PART II
Disturbed
Soundgarden
Porcupine Tree: PART I and PART II
Linkin Park

Yesterday, I bought a few albums including Use Your Illusion. I thought this would be the perfect time to do a top listeners radio once again. This will probably be my last for some time though as I really don’t have much time these days.

Same rules…scrobble a song, give critique, move on, keep it scrobbled even if you think it sucks…However…I’ve given up on 2 bands: Any song by Bullet for my Valentine or Children of Bodom will be skipped. I dunno guys, I just don’t get why people like either band when IMO, I’ve heard better from their genres and all.

TRACK #1:
PlaceboInfra-Red (, )

That’s a strange way to begin it…something not even from GNR’s “scene” (hard rock and classic rock and heavy metal stuff). While the beat is good, I just didn’t remember anything minutes later. 6.7/10

TRACK #2/:
Guns N’ RosesMove to the City (, )

GNR Lies…the only GNR album I don’t have…great rock out tune. This is also a live track instead of the GNR stuff…you get to hear the jazz and organ in this version. 8.9/10

BTW, someone tell Axl Rose to come here and upload his library onto Last.fm…every track…studio and live tracks…maybe Chinese Democracy :)

TRACK #3:
Duke EllingtonPrelude to a Kiss ()

Is this the most interesting radio station yet? From alt-rock to hard rock…to JAZZ? Well, chances are, we’ve heard this song someplace or another (you probably don’t realize it). Fitting for an ending to a movie when things end happy. 8.5/10

TRACK #4:
AC/DCMoneytalks (, , )

AC/DC rocks! Need I say more? A popular Brian Johnson era track from probably AC/DC’s last major album. Once again, it’s a live track (at least this version), and once again, it kicks butt, especially the solo. 9.3/10 This was actually an early 90s song so if you see AC/DC on a future list by me of top rock songs of the 90s, this is probably why.

TRACK #5:
MudvayneShadow of a Man (, )

Now to nu metal? I was expecting a lot of classic stuff. Mudvayne isn’t influenced by GNR, are they? Now, earlier today, while listening to the lunch request hour on my hometown rock radio in Buffalo (103.3 the Edge for those in Buffalo), I had to listen to that atrocious Dig due to one requesting it…oh man, that hurt my ears…it was virtually…Slipknot. As for this song…it’s ok, just doesn’t flow that well to me. 6.7/10, too much constant rhythm changing without any flow.

TRACK #6:
Depeche ModeThe Sinner In Me (, , )

As you know, Depeche Mode is high on my charts now…found out a lot of bands were influenced by them like Linkin Park, Lacuna Coil, and Fear Factory. Unlike their older stuff, this is more hard electronic with some industrial grooves…Nine Inch Nailish…still a decent song. 8.7/10

TRACK #7:
The FrayHow to Save a Life (, )

I just don’t find the appeal to this style of rock. R.E.M. was know to do soft songs like this, but they had a lot of power in other songs, especially their 80s stuff…this song…is literally one of the reasons why I stopped listening to top 40 radio (and the main reason why I STILL have not heard that Umbrella song by Rihanna). Anyways, I just don’t get the appeal of this song…this song is ranked at #42 right now (#32 if In Rainbows was a myth)…I know they were trying to make good lyrics, but if the final product looks stale, it just won’t appeal to me. Good lyricism or good guitarwork doesn’t always make good music. It’s the final product that matter to me, and this well…4.5/10

TRACK #8:
The Rolling Stones19th Nervous Breakdown (, )

Now that’s more like it…some classic rock. The stones are one of the 3 bands that got me into rock (other 2 are Queen and The Beatles). This song has the classic blues vibe to it, great to listen too…8.3/10

TRACK #9:
ApulantaArmo ()

Well, here we have a foreign band that I have never heard of. That’s the beauty of last.fm, you might be able to hear something that is never heard anywhere else. Now, we have a band called Apulanta…well, the song sounds more like a hard rock song with some metal influences. Of course the words are tough to figure out…they’re speaking in Finnish, am I right? As for the song, cool, 7.3/10

TRACK #10:
Marilyn MansonThe Nobodies (, )

Well…this song…is ok. Nothing special…but then again, the sound quality’s bad…ask Manson to reupload the song if you’re interested. 6.6/10

TRACK #11:
Sonata ArcticaBlinded No More ()

Not only do we have YET another live track, but notice that the time is not ticking down correctly…it lists 13 seconds, and keeps playing…I have a bad feeling it may not scrobble like Spitfire. This feels more like simple heavy metal rather than the power metal stuff we normally hear from them. From the other SA songs I’ve heard, this one feels weak. 7.8/10

TRACK #12:
Alice CooperPoison (, , )

I’m not much of a classic rocker…and I have to admit this song is good, but nothing beats his anthem School’s Out. 8.5/10

TRACK #13:
In FlamesWayfaerer (, , )

IMO, every band should place an instrumental of some sort on their album…it’s a way to hear their sound. And this instrumental is pretty damn awesome…9.3/10

TRACK #14:
Tenacious DHistory (, )

You know when these guys are here, it’s always silly stuff…chicken supreme, burrito supreme, lol! 9.1/10

TRACK #15:
Iced EarthDark Saga (, )

Well, the instrumentation is good here…nice metal riff…but the final product just comes out underwhelming below expectations. Don’t know…7.1.

Once again, yet another live track…and also it’s cut off

The next song is supposed to be Downfall by Children of Bodom, but as I said, I gave up trying them too often, so I’m moving on. And why am I getting tons of metal bands? GNR isn’t a metal band, right? Don’t tell that GNR is a true metal band…I spent hours removing each “metal” tag from GNR after I determined they were straight out hard rock…

TRACK #16:
HiMIn Joy and Sorrow (, )

Boring…5.6/10

TRACK #17:
Red Hot Chili PeppersOtherside (, )

HELL FUCKING YEAH! 10/10 You know what, how bout the music video:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=IumNe7guYXs

4 million fucking views baby!

TRACK #18:
Ill NinoWith You (, )

Actually, this song is anything but alternative metal…more of a latin flavored song. 8.1/10

TRACK #19:
NirvanaHeart-Shaped Box (, )

How bout another live track of another great 90s song by another great rock bands from that era? 9.5/10

TRACK #20:
Velvet RevolverBodies (live) ()

Covering the Sex Pistols…LIVE…LIVE LIVE LIVE LIVE LIVE…LIVE.FM…ok, serious now, haven’t heard the original. This is cool though…punk song now sounding like a rockout song. Been getting into some VR recently due to my love to STP and GNR. 8.6/10.

TRACK #21:
PanteraSuicide Note Pt. II (, , )

I thought it sounded like metalcore of melodic death metal after the first few minutes. This well…kind of a lot of screaming, not enough flow. 6.8/10…they’ve done better from what I’ve heard from these guys. Also, RIP Dimebag.

TRACK #22:
Hanoi RocksTragedy (, )

It’s ok…7.0/10

TRACK #23:
MuseNew Born (, )

After a soft start, the guitars kick in, and it’s our good buddies Muse. Nice song…I’ll check out Muse’s first 2 albums in the near future…8.8/10

TRACK #24:
Black Label SocietyFire It Up ()

Oh man, people love this band in Buffalo…as a result, I keep hearing Stillborn and House of Doom. Really great stuff IMO. Nice guitar riffs…I’d love to hear more from this band. 9.4/10. Also, for those bitching about “emo rock” dominating and claiming there will never be any good rock anymore, ask them to try BLS out a little (of course we all know there’s more to today’s rock than just Fall Out Boy and Nickelback, didn’t we?). Nice guitar solo too.

TRACK #25:
HooverphonicEden ()

Relaxing stuff…but that’s all I can say…7.1/10

TRACK #26:
AerosmithI Don’t Want To Miss A Thing (, )

OK, I admit this isn’t that bad, but come on…doesn’t Aerosmith have better songs from their past…the influential songs? Last Child, Sweet Emotion and Water Song anyone? 7.8/10

TRACK #27:
AltariaDivine ()

Looks like a lesser known power metal. Has good potential, but I’m more interested in SA right now…actually, it’s Dream Theater that I have more interest in, and you’ll see me scrobble them a lot next week…got 3 albums worth of music so…

TRACK #28:
QueenToo Much Love Will Kill You (, )

BEAUTIFUL!!! 9.5/10

TRACK #29:
Breaking BenjaminMedicate (, )

I can hear a Nirvana vibe into this band. Nothing wrong with that. Has a metal vibe (not a tr00 metal vibe), pretty cool. 9.0/10

TRACK #30:
Michael JacksonMan in the Mirror (, )

Our favorite pedophile (don’t think of it YTMND). He’s probably the only well-liked pop musician out there…probably because he defined pop music…and maybe some rock as well. Too bad he enjoyed little boys. You just don’t hear pop like this today. Meaningful song. 8.8/10

I was supposed to stop at #20, but I felt like scrobbling more for all the time I missed last few weeks.

TRACK #31:
Twisted SisterYou Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll (, )

It’s the goddamn truth guys…you can’t stop rock music. It never dies…so if you think it’s dead, think again. 9.2/10 because of the lyrics.

And I think we can end it on this next one…

TRACK #32:
MetallicaEnter Sandman (, )

9.8/10…it’s a classic…what can I say? You’ll be hearing it all the time…Iron Man…Crazy Train…Welcome to the Jungle…Highway to Hell…you can try escaping classic rock and metal, but these songs will come back to you, no matter how far you go! YEAH YEAHHHH!

Well, that’ll be it. Yes, I’m scrobbling Iron Maiden right now and their classic Aces High, but I got to do other things right now. As you can see, it took a while, but we got a lot of classics from GNR. We also got a lot of power metal as well…we had oddballs like Mudvayne and Duke Ellington and Depeche Mode. We got our share of classic heavy metal and all. I say, GNR gives a lot of good stuff. We had our essential ACDC, our essential RHCP, our essential Metallica, and our essential Queen. No nasty screaming vocals other than Pantera…but they’re in a different league (In Flames was an instrumental). It’ll probably be a while before I return back to top listeners radios…I got a lot of new music to inhale over the next few weeks.
