  • Year End Charts 2008

    22 Dic 2008, 16:08

'Tis the season to compile a chart or two and rate things from 1 to 10, so here are a few of my own lists for 2008.

    Albums
Being part of the ever reducing clan that still buy albums on a physical format I think this year has been a corking year for albums. Here are my favorite 10:

    10: Portishead - Third
9: Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
8: Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of the Understatement
7: Emiliana Torrini - Me and Armini
6: Pete and the Pirates - Little Death
5: Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
4: Laura Marling - Alas I cannot Swim
    3: Glasvegas - Glasvegas
    2: Foals - Antidotes
1: Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes

Honorable mention should go to Ryan Adams and The Cardinals, who just missed the top 10. What's missing from the above ? Well everyone else seems to be including MGMT in there year end chart - but they're just no more than the single Kids to me.

Most disappointing album of the year ? I don't like to be negative, but the Noah and the Whale record just didn't do it for me.

    Bands to watch 2009

This year we saw some great new bands, who should do big things in the next year. the common theme ? They're all Folk or Lo-fi

Florence and The Machine - Already being hyped as the next big thing
Kid Harpoon - will be putting out an album to follow the 2 excellent EPs
The Rumble Strips The new songs sound great live - lets hope they transfer to record
Jay Jay Pistolet - he can do no wrong in my eyes, oh except support Katie Melua
Mumford And Sons - Marcus Mumford - is the other side of the Laura Marling axis of folk
Slow Club - Their latest single, Christmas TV, is the best yet.
Left With Pictures - More folk!
