What can I say about Deftones’ new album other than it’s brilliant! Like the gem in the title this album is flawless, a treasure, timeless.

The album opens up with the title track Diamond Eyes but the violent beauty doesn’t stop there. Cmnd/Ctrl ignites an unconscious, dormant primitive desire in the depths of your being; Rocket Skates and Prince skirt the edges of immorality. Royal is classic Deftones while You’ve Seen The Butcher, Sextape and Beauty School entrance you with their hypnotic melodies.

Once again Deftones have managed to conjure up an alternate reality, one somewhere between dreaming and consciousness, a twilight zone. They sweep you away with their hardcore metal-rock fusion punctuated by melodies so sweet they’ll make your teeth fall out. Chino’s unique vocal ability to lift you up with his soft whispers one moment and send you crashing back to earth with his piercing screams the next is one of the facets that make this quintet truly inimitable. It’s one of the reasons we love them so much, that rollercoaster ride they deliver so well. All complemented by the band’s raw, visceral tunes - that logic tells us should be incongruous – harmoniously add to the wonder of the record.

This album is like spiralling within a mystical hurricane in slow motion, but don’t get me wrong, there’s no escaping the g-forces!
