Thanks for your fair and well-balanced review of The Jam's brilliant Setting Sons.

Yes, same to you. For me, personally; they have been great F13's. Based on CD's coming in the mail, and, of course; staying alive!

You know, the Five Tracks EP; imho, is some of Cale's best work. I hope he puts out a new album sometime this year.

Oh man, you were right about Man Man. What an insane show. Musical chaos at its most entertaining - and I've never seen anyone rock a xylophone so hard!

No, actually I mainly bought the ticket for Yeasayer, whose 2007 album I'vee been listening to a lot lately. You've intrigued me about Man Man, though...

Thanks for that. Is there any album of Cale's you DON'T have? I'm so impressed, given that some of them are pretty damn hard to come by.

Hey man, did you see that Cale's 'Church of Anthrax' (with Terry Riley) is being reissued in April? I'm looking forward to hearing it. Do you have it already, and what do you think?

Thanks for the tip! Where can I find it? I am very fond of 'Rei Momo', incidentally. I think it's a lot better than 'Naked', actually, which is badly sequenced and contains too much filler. ('Cool Water' is a brilliant closer, though!)

Hey man! What's the John Cale and Bob Neuwirth album like? I must admit, I passed on some pretty cheap copies of it in second hand CD shops in Seattle over the summer because I wasn't sure what the album actually was. It's a spoken word thing, yeah?

Yeah, it's brilliant. I think the talent in Depeche Mode went with Alan Wilder :)

Not 'Transformer'? That one's a lot of fun, as much a Bowie album as it is a Reed album. In fact, it's like Ziggy with more life experience and less irony.

    'Metal Machine Music'*, my bad.

Oh come on, really? That's...an eccentric choice. Oh well. I dig Eno's and David Sylvian's long formless ambient pieces, I guess 'Machine Metal Music' has the same general idea. Except one is loud, the other is soft.

'Decade' might have been fun live, but it's a real trial to sit through on record. But I'm enjoying the rest. The version of 'Helen of Troy' in particular, is much better than the studio version.

It really is the worst sound quality of any official release I own (I thought 'Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture' was bad, but this is much worse!) From what I can find out, mine is the basic 8-track edition. Oh well. It's interesting to hear Cale live at that time, but I don't think it'll get many plays!

Conóceme

Si tu vois mon pays,
Mon pays malheureux,
Va, dis à mes amis
Que je me souviens d'eux.

I wish that I could press a button
and talk in the past and not the present tense
And watch this loving feeling disappear
like it was common sense
I was a fine idea at the time
But now I'm a brilliant mistake
