A different type of survey: How weird am I?

"Get your top 20 artists, and find which of their tracks you've played the most on iTunes/Windows Media Player. Then see where it comes in that artist's "most-played" lists. The lower the track in the list, the weirder you are…or something to that effect."

1. Tori Amos
My top track: Rattlesnakes This is not my favorite Tori song, nor is it her best, since it is a cover, but I adore this song so much. This one song made the horrible Strange Little Girls worth my 13 dollars. It helps me mellow out.
Ranking: 72. That is not surprising. It is the best track off of Strange Little Girls, but it is a cover. Even though it is a great cover, it should not be high in Tori's top tracks.

2. Fiona Apple
My top track: Paper Bag This is my favorite Fiona song and my favorite song of all time. It is my most played track on last.fm. I love this song to death. I can listen to it over and over.
Ranking: 1. That is really interesting. I thought Criminal or one of her radio hits would be number one. Paper Bag was not a hit single for Fiona, but most people name it as their favorite song of hers. I have never talked to anyone who did not like this song, so I guess it makes sense that it is number one.

3. Ani DiFranco
My top track: Out of Habit This is my favorite Ani song. I listen to it all the time and never get sick of it. Both the lyrics and the melody are incredibly well-written.
Ranking: 28. That's a bit shocking. This is definately one of Ani's best songs. Even people who are not big Ani fans love this one. Its position is a bit dissapointing to me.

4. PJ Harvey
My top track: Down by the Water My favorite PJ track of all time! It is also from my favorite PJ album. No surprise that this is my top track of hers.
Ranking: 4. That is a pretty high ranking, but I thought it would be 1 or 2. It is one of her best known tracks and one of the most highly regarded. At least it is in the top 10.

5. Aimee Mann
My top track: Guys Like Me This is not my favorite Aimee track, but it is my favorite track off of Lost in Space; it is the one that made me fall in love with that album. It is one of my favorite tracks of hers, but not my all-time favorite.
Ranking: 21. That seems right. It is not one that is regarded as one her best tracks nor it is one that a lot of people are familiar with, so the ranking seems suitable.

6. Regina Spektor
My top track: Chemo Limo This used to be one of the tracks I liked the least from Soviet Kitsch. But after giving it a chance and really listening to it, it has now become one of my favorite songs and, quite possibly, my favorite Regina song of all time. It is so heartbreakingly beautiful. I don't know how anyone could not like it.
Ranking: 16. Wow. I thought this song would at least be in the top 10. Most Regina fans I've talked to list this as their favorite song of hers. But I guess it makes sense since most of the top tracks were from begin to hope, her most popular album, so I guess the ranking makes sense.

7. Garbage
My top track: I Think I'm Paranoid This is the song that got me into Garbage and made me fall in love with Version 2.0. Though it is not my all-time favorite Garbage song, it is definately one I hold in high regard.
Ranking: 5. This seems appropriate. I figured it would be in the top 10 because it is one of their biggest hits and one of their best songs.

8. Elliott Smith
My top track: Single File This is my favorite Elliott song and it is from my favorite Elliott album.
Ranking: 54. That is not surprising at all. That seems to be an appropriate ranking since it is not a track a lot of people seem to know about. Even hardcore Elliott fans I know hardly ever talk about this one, so this ranking seems right.

9. Kate Bush
My top track: Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) This is the song that made me fall in love with Kate. It is my favorite song of hers from my favorite Kate album.
Ranking: 8. The song is actually ranked at number 2, which is appropriate because it is one of her best loved and most well known songs. Running up that Hill (A Deal with God) is how the song appears on the Hounds of Love album, so that is why it is ranked lower than the one that is simply titled Running up that Hill.

10. Liz Phair
My top track: Girls! Girls! Girls! I love this song. Though it is not my favorite Liz track, it is from one of my favorite albums of all time: the magnificant Exile in Guyville.
Ranking: 20. That seems reasonable, considering most of her top 10 tracks are from those awful new albums. Since it is not one of the most well know Exile tracks, the ranking seems right.

11. Cat Power
My top track: Cross Bones Style This is my favorite Cat Power song. It is so hauntingly beautiful. I fell in love with her music because of this song.
Ranking: 20. WHAT?? That does not seem right. I would have put this song in the top 10. Well… since most of the top tracks are from the new album, I guess it makes sense that this would be lower, but I didn't think it would be this low.

12. Mirah
My top track: Gone Sugaring I love this song! One of my favorite Mirah tracks. I can't get enough of it!!!
Ranking: 30. That makes sense. It is not one of her most popular songs, but I love it.

13. Bjork
My top track: Possibly Maybe
This is one of my favorite Bjork songs ever! It is one of my lullabys. It's mellow beauty always helps me get to sleep.
Ranking: 10. It makes sense for this song to be in the top 10. I am content with this ranking.

14. Sonic Youth
My top track: Sweet Shine I love this song. It is one of the most beautiful indie-lo-fi songs ever in my opinion. Even though the album it comes from is one of Sonic Youth's worst, this is probably one of my all-time favorite songs of theirs.
Ranking: haha this song is not even listed in their top 100 tracks. Considering that no one ever talks about this song and it is from Sonic Youth's dreaded Experimental Jet Set, Trash, and No Star, the lack of top ranking makes sense. It makes even more sense when you consider that Sonic Youth has a shitload of albums and 99% of them are better than the album this song comes from.

15. Peaches
My top track: Do Ya Though this may not be one her best song and it is very tame compared to most other peaches songs, I love it to death. I can't stop listening to it. It always makes me want to dance!
Ranking: 15. I thought this song would be higher since it was used in a recent commericial, but I guess the rankning makes sense, since it is Peaches' incredibly dirty songs that draw people to her.

16. Patti Smith
My top track: Because The Night I love this song very much, but it is not my favorite song of hers. I listened to it a lot before because I had yet to hear her other songs. The songs on Horses far surpass this one. It is also her most overplayed track, but regardless, I still like it a lot.
Ranking: 2. I thought it would be number 1 because it is her most well known song, but it is second to Gloria. I think this ranking is appropriate because Gloria is her best song in my opinion.

17. Miles Davis
My top track: Blue in Green This is my favorite Miles Davis song. It is from one of my favorite albums of all time: the masterpiece Kind of Blue. It is also my favorite jazz composition. This song made me fall in love with jazz!
Ranking: 2. That makes sense considering that all of the Kind of Blue tracks are at the top of the list. The song is second to So What. While I love So What, I think Blue and Green should be no. 1!!!

18. Poe
My top track: Another World Though I do not consider this to be an essential Poe track, I love it to death. Though lyrically and musically it is pale in comparision to the tracks on Haunted, it has a beat that is incredibly irresistable. I can't help but play this track over and over.
Ranking: 25. That makes sense. The Haunted tracks are much more popular and better overall than the Hello tracks. This is also a track that is mostly disregarded by fans and non-fans alike, so the ranking seems right.

19. Sarah McLachlan
My top track: Building a Mystery This is one of my favorite Sarah songs of all time. I love everything about it. The lyrics and the melody are flawless. One of the most beautiful songs ever written in my opinion.
Ranking: 4. An appropriate ranking. I figured it would be in the top 10 since it was one of her biggest hits. Most of the Surfacing songs were towards the top, since that is her most successful album.

20. The Softies
My top track: Pedestal
My favorite song from an incredibly underrated band. It is so beautiful and mellow. I listen to it when I am ready to go to sleep.
Ranking: 51. I guess that makes sense. It is from the self titled album and all of the tracks from it rank incredibly low, since it is not as popular as Holiday in Rhode Island and It's Love. It is also the least popular track on the album, so the ranking seems right.

I am not sure how weird I am. Some of my top tracks rank in the top 10, some even at number one and others are way at the bottom of the charts, one was not even on the charts at all. I guess I rank somewhere in between normal and weird when it comes to music :)
