I loved your brilliantly elliptical comment on Bob Dylan's Gates Of Eden that you had four years to do something this great with your life. It made me think you must be some kind of musician or lyricist, but couldn't see anything on your site. Barring some fatal illness, what did you mean?

I've seen the mountains goats live twice. 2 of the best shows of my days. Hey I don't mean to bother you or impose but I was wondering if you could you do me a huge favor and take a look at my art and tell me what you think? And be honest please it's ok to tell me it wasn't really for you http://www.behance.net/Franksantora Thanks for your time. Also I take the time to make each message different so this isn't a spam comment. :)

It might behoove you to watch the documentary Dig! as you embark on your journey through the world of Anton Newcombe and The Brian Jonestown Massacre to get a good personal feel for the artists involved

fantastic! what did you think? i hope it wasn't even less interesting for you than TIFTM. i forgot to mention you're supposed to drop acid and/or smoke a ton of hash while listening to it, oops! ;-)

    Agosto 2012
  • theory_of_mind

VVV they're not wrong, but looking at your charts actually i think you might want to start with "Their Satanic Majesties' Second Request"; the new stuff is more than "not accessible" it kind of actively holds the listener in contempt to be honest, but it's still my favorite... so try "Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?", "Aufheben" and then "My Bloody Underground" if you're feeling adventurous

I'd start with Take It From the Man. I did that too and it worked pretty good for me.

  • dhorasoo

Hi, were I you, I'd start with "Bravery, Repetition and Noise", the one that really got me into BJM after I'd listened to "Take It..." and thought 'not bad, not bad, but....', my personal fave, to tell the truth. some might say it's one of their rather mediocre albums but don't care, it's in fact very regular, dense, cinematic and quite accessible, I think, unlike their latest stuff which is also worth checking out by the way.

    Agosto 2012
  • agustinmuerto

Hi there. Regarding you comment on the BJM page... Take It From the Man! is probably their best album, it's hit after hit. But there play in so many different styles that it might be easier to get into something like Thank God For Mental Illness... Anyway, you won't regret whatever you get from this band, though it might get a while to grow fond of them (at least it did for me).

Aha, I thought I recognized the name. Yeah, it's a good album and the last track on the Jubilee Edition is particularly beautiful. I saw them last year before I heard the album and it blew me away too, although after the show Jon Hopkins and I had a Shaggy-related disagreement... Erm, there is no simple reason how I got the job, I guess from when I was 17 I started doing internships and temping roles at various music companies and at first I started Domino as an intern, but they happened to take me on full time for a few months just as they needed someone, and this was two years ago and after I left I went on to work at Warners for a long time and was just about to go over to EMI when Domino asked if I fancied coming back in time for Suck It And See, and I went with that and have somehow stuck around since. So I guess in my case it was a combination of good timing and sticking to it and constantly getting more experience from different places.

I do believe I saw your name appear today while I was processing the Domino Mart orders, go for the 2 Diamond Mine vinyls, eh?

if you still searching for stuff similar to cap'njazz, you should check drive like jehu (more violent) , Polvo , Algernon Cadwallader (really similar, but less good of course), Faraquet, Unwound (a bit more depressive) and why not some post-punk like Mission of burma or Wipers, i hope you don't know all of them.. !

Very much so! I can't see Errors on friday anymore so i'm delighted to have the opportunity to see them then. Also really hyped about the Hot Chip set and all the other great acts playing. It's gonna be such a good weekend!

    Febrero 2012
  • duncan-

Haha yeah, seemed as if he was staring straight into my eyes at one point! I've only seen them in bigger venues (ABC & Liquid Rooms) so I think the fact it was a smaller venue made it so much better, and a whole lot more intense. Yeah, I caught them, Astrid & Quinn, right? I thought they were pretty good, I wasn't really keen on the singer though. I thought the other band were better, a few of the songs had a nice Endor/Idlewild feel which was cool. P.S Not sure you've heard but Admiral Fallow are playing PJ Molloy's on 30/4! :-D

    Febrero 2012
  • duncan-

Ah yeah, you'll like Errors! Some incredible moments on it. Yeah, I was there last night! I thought it was so good, definitely the best time I've seen them by far. The new stuff sounded great too. I saw you just at the end, but I had my mum waiting outside to pick us up, so had to leave basically the second it finished, so sorry for not saying hi! Maybe catch you at frabbits on Friday or something.

    Febrero 2012
  • duncan-

Yeah! I like it, only listened once though. It sounds like a pretty nice progression from the EPs. I'm also really enjoying Errors and Django Django's albums too. You gonna be at The Twilight Sad tomorrow?

mayyors are extremely raw and under produced. If you like noise rock (what the men are) the start with the origins of the stink in' genre. ed hall, scratch acid, buttonhole surfers. Part Chimp is gusta

as you might have found out by now by the comments given, The Men/Leave Home is using sounds from several sides and making their own soup of it. it's quite lovely i think, but yeah, it does feel like a collection of various other acts. some other acts: Condominium, Rusted Shut, Mayyors, Fag Cop, some Part Chimp...
