Noticed you been listening to quite a bit of Shining and Kayo Dot lately. They always deliver. I've never heard anything else by the Norwegian Shining other than Blackjazz, but I hear another album of theirs came out (or will come out) recently. Anything else good?

I really enjoyed that Direwolf album. I definitely see the Cynic influence there, as Mike also makes it sound more like Spiral Architect and of course, B... TA. There's also some Arcturus elements sprinkled throughout there as well. And of course, all those vocals; quite a range there. I can't quite get a favorite track yet, but it gelled with me quite well. Anything new you've been into lately?

Facets is really good there. I really like the female vocals on Fleurety also. I think Shotgun Blast and Fingerprint are my favorites. They only have a few of those songs uploaded anyway. You've also reminded me to check out that Direwolf album. I remember it from a while back.

Yeah, Czral and Garm are all over the map as far as the Norwegian avant-garde scene is concerned. Ved Buens Ende happens to be a favorite of mine. Written In Waters has just this surreal, from-out-of-left-field mystique to it. Fluerety I also really like. That Department of Apocalypic Affairs album is such an idiosyncratic delight, with an all-star lineup of musicians to boot. The early Ulver days sound fascinating, and that song was very nice, what with all the off-kilter nuances that would later shape the genre as well. I also have to go back to Themes, as I've listened to most everything after and that album seems to be the blueprint to Ulver's radical Metamorphasis, if you will.

The same could certainly be said for Ulver. Speaking of which, have you heard any of their albums from their black metal incarnation. I have yet to do so myself?

Yeah, those were the two I was thinking about, since the only one I've listened to was Through My Dog's Eyes, which went in one ear and out the other. But I know there's plenty in ED to keep you on your toes as well.

Hey, thank you for the request. I think that's about the second or third time I've listened to maudlin. I haven't heard Part The Second yet though. However, Kayo Dot was one of my finest discoveries of the last decade. Particularly Choirs of the Eye, which is absolutely stunning. I see you have Ephel Duath as well. I heard good things about The Painter's Palette.

Ha! Yep!! 323 days of hard work behind the scenes ;-) Still yet...the 60 day time-frame of the "Pledge Your Ticket" program is going to feel like 323 days!

Yeah, Wars doesn't seem to have any of the magic that made the others so great. Lethargy I've been meaning to get into for a while now, especially since Remission is my favorite from Mastodon. I've heard they're even more intense, and the Dillinger comparsion heightens my interest for sure.

Yeah, true, although I tend to lean towards the s/t. I've only heard Wars of the Roses once and it didn't grab me (which I was kind of expecting). Probably will need more spins. I think they peaked with Blood Inside/Perdition City, although Shadows was very good too. I see you have Lethargy as well. I think they were a pre-incarnation of Mastodon, if I remember correctly.

No worries. I'm pretty much into anything that Colin Marston has had a hand in, along with any other related projects. Do you have a favorite Krallice album?

Nice stuff. I noticed you hit up the Indricothere quite well. Props to that. You into any other Colin Marston related material?

Yeah, sorry about the show. It got canceled because the guy putting it on pulled it because he thought no one was coming. I'm none too happy about it and expected many people to show up, not only for us, but for Biclops too. I had my computer in the shop and out of commission for a few weeks and was only able to get online at my parents and at the radio station sporadically so I wasn't able to get around to everything and getting the word out it was canceled to everyone. Thanks for making the attempt though! Hopefully the 'slicer will be playing out soon. Hopefully we will get album number two done soon. I've got album number two from Cigarettes & Clip-Art slated for release by the end of the year, if not early 2010. I've also got an EP done that is slated for a 2010 release. Among other things of course... ;-)

that's cool about motW....I think the album is absolutely amazing. Sure it doesn't sound like older motW at best...but still, like you said, for what it is, it's great! Did ya hear, new Kayo Dot, Feb 2010, on Hydra Head...album is going to be called Coyote. Quite interested to hear what direction they take on that one. I see you were asking about Augury on mySpace....I've listened to a lot of it so far but haven't gotten all the way through it. I am really enjoying it though and I do think it will make my top 100 list of 2009, that much is for sure!
