Pickde up some early 1960's Jazz Journal magazines a couple of weeks ago. Am planning to feature each one in turn on my vintage magazines blog. First installment, featuring Memphis Slim, can be found at http://dakotaboo-vintage-books-magazines.blogspot.com/2012/05/jazz-journal-memphis-slim-march-1961.html

A big thank you for the acceptance of my friend request. I always love to find people who have varied musical tastes who's charts I can raid for interesting music. Especially when I find music I already enjoy with a high play count attached.

Thanks for the add sir. 'Seasons They Change' does look interesting...'Through The Eyes Of Magic' is the Beefheart story told by the Magic Band's drummer. Found it tough to get into at first and I'm not sure I particularly like John French all that much, but it's becoming a mighty fine read. A bit of a monster size-wise though :) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beefheart-Through-Magic-John-French/dp/0956121217/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1304022677&sr=1-1

Hey there buddy, nice charts and a neat blog too. I've got Rob Young's 'Electric Eden' sitting on my shelf waiting for me to finish John French's 'Through The Eyes Of Magic'...it could be there a while yet!

Hello Mr.Boo and cheers for the request which is gladly accepted. Your charts reads like a John Peel playlist from the 70's. Brilliant stuff in there by the way and I will look forward to playing your radio to catch up with a few old favourites (Mellow Candle etc). cheers4now..Kirky

I took a look and noticed you plan to get into Pere Ubu (or at least did so about a year ago). The "Datapanik in the Year Zero" comp is a worthwhile investment since the fourth disc consists of related bands that haven't been issued anywhere. Its going for £11.57 right now.

Hello LastFm chum, I've lovingly fashioned a new compilation and I'd wager it might be right up your street. It's a sultry, late night number and it's right here: http://snd.sc/heNLHy

Thanx for your shout and request! Well I'm absolutely mad about late 70s post-punk and New Wave / New Romantic and Electronic / Synth stuff. In that period I was still pretty young , and probably too young too buy records, but now I collect them and enjoy the thrill of vinyl sounds.... From Germany with best wishes, Markus

Musical history
Avid music listener and one-time collector. Cut my musical teeth listening to John Peel in the late 70's/early 80's, so had a firm grounding in punk, new wave and post-punk. Late 80's/early 90's was musically a dark period for me during which time I started looking back to the late 60's/early 70's, listening to the likes of the Byrds, CSN, Neil Young, Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, Roy Harper, Peter Hammill, Brian Eno, Soft Machine, Caravan, etc.

Gig history
First gig was the Revillos in 1981, closely followed by Killing Joke, the Damned, the Jam, New Order, Theatre of Hate, the Meteors, the Cramps, UK Subs (from which I still have a scar on my head). Later years I got to see the Pixies, Throwing Muses, the Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Mission, Ride, etc ... and much more recently Nurse With Wound, Current 93, Bonnie Prince Billy and David Byrne ... and even more recently The Damned, Public Image Ltd, Billy Bragg, The Doves and Maximo Park. Plus I have seen Dodgy, The Pretty Things and Wilko Johnson at our local arts centre in 2012 already.

Using last.fm to ...
I'm using last.fm to discover/rediscover great music that I missed, or have forgotten about. Recent discoveries include Pere Ubu, The Soft Boys, Robert Rental, Pentangle, Big Star, and rediscoveries include The Names, Magazine, Associates, John Foxx, The Records, and loads more. In addition to all this I've started exploring the Japrock genre using Julian Cope's excellent Japrocksampler book as my guide. I have also recently just begun my first real excursion into reggae and ska, and have also delved a bit deeper into avant-garde through the likes of Henry Cow, Fred Frith, Lindsay Cooper, the Art Bears and Univers Zero. My current listening has now moved on to acid folk, psychedelic folk, phreak folk, new weird america, with Espers, Pearls Before Swine, Mariee Sioux, Meg Baird, etc., which has been heavily influenced by two great recent reads, Electric Eden: Unearthing Britain's Visionary Music and Seasons They Change: The Story of Acid and Psychedelic Folk.

My playlists
Hippy dream
My formative years (John Peel inspired)
Krautrock and kosmische
Post punk
Reggae and ska
