Last night my girlfriend and I and my good friend from work decided to go see the Wolf Parade show at Metro. I already saw them last year before their major popularity broke through at Double Door and I still consider it to be one of the best shows I've been to. Hoping that this venture would be similar I threw the $50 bucks at Ticketmaster and looked the other way and crossed my fingers.
As soon as we got there, there was some rude bitch who stood right in front of my girlfriend. Not like a little bit in front but literally within a couple inches of her face. The girl acted like she wasn't doing anything wrong and obviously was only thinking about herself. I kindly asked her to step aside and she gave me the snootiest look in the world... hahah fucking people are great.
Thank god, Holy Fuck took the stage and we started rocking. They reminded me of a math-rock electro set similar to that of Couch except much heavier and much much louder. They were definitely much more heavy on the sampling then they were the instrumentation which was a bit of a let-down. However they played well and it was enjoyable. Especially compared to the god damn fucking shitty Frog Eyes set.
Goooood fucking christ were they boring. Seriously the worst band I've seen live and will drive 400 pins into my eyeballs before having to sit through them again. I've enjoyed a couple of their albums, but nothing to the extent of really WANTING to listen to them. But live, its like listening to a dying pus-laden bird trying to throw so much emotion into the mic that you want to jump on stage and put the guy out of his misery. Not only for singing so badly but even more so for being such a fucking fraud. Seeing this band live made me hate this band more than any other band probably in existence.
The only good thing the band has going for them is Spencer Krug who is part of Wolf Parade. A much much MUCH better band. Oh and the drummer just so happens to be a red headed girl... man she was so hot.
Wolf Parade took the stage and the show was a blast. They played some favorites and played some songs that were obviously works for their next album... some of it much softer/slower and one song I even could describe as sounding like a "samurai western". (Bizarre I know.)
Definitely a good show- but was no where near the quality of their Double Door showing last year.
