Their last album made me a very unconvincing. I think it's too happy and joyful and it doesn't fit to the Manics. But finally I fell in love with the songs like for example The future has been here 4ever or Don't be evil. But there's a few songs I find as something boring and predicable. Anyhow they're still my fav band and I respect them :)

It's nice that you have Polish roots :) It's good to know you feel the same :) Manics are so special, if you dive into their world nothing seems to be the same as before. I love Journal for the plague lovers I think it's my 3th favourite album of them after the Holy bible and Know your enemy. They played here in PL twice but I could't be at their gigs. I hope it will come soon. I guess they don't play anything form Journal... because it's too emotional , too many memories and it probably hurts.

I know them from childhood but they have always been a little on the side and did not pay too much attention to them until 2007. During those four years they overturned my world and my views upside down;p Nicky Wire and Richey , they are my masters at writing lyrics. And James is genius, great vocalist, great guitarist and amazing composer, imo he's the best rock composer of last two decades :) Here in Poland is almost 2 a.m and I'm trying get some sleep;p

Yeah Manic Street Preacher is one of those bands that forever changed my life a few years ago. Many of them I owe, and I guess I feel more aware because of them :) I'm fine I can't sleep I overdosed coffee;p

I like the new Strokes album a lot actually. Nice mix of all their solo work. Can't wait to see what they have in store for starting the follow up record and the supposed extra material that they have.

Yeah he was a guest on Glitter Freeze from Plastic Beach. He also appeared at Glastonbury with them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfCESyFn_Dc&feature=related

I have a few Fall gig posters framed on my wall. I'll get around to taking some pictures of them sometime.

Very nice prints. Wouldn't mind getting one for my walls! At last count I think they have 29 or 30 studio LPs and countless live records. Best place for anybody to start is their six-disc Peel Sessions box set.

Very tough question. I'll have to give you a top five: The Unutterable, This Nation's Saving Grace, Levitate, Frenz Experiment and maybe Shiftwork. This list changes a lot. Haven't seen the Hewlett prints. Link?

Thanks. Glad you liked it. Been writing for a long time now, but am yet to make any real money from it unfortunately. Plenty of time yet. As for Britain, well, the grass is always greener on the other side! Do you mind if I add you on Facebook?

Sputnik is a website. Here's the review in question: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/41811/PJ-Harvey-Let-England-Shake/ You can find other reviews of mine quite easily from that link, so feel free to look around. If you click the link underneath my username on my profile, it takes you to a music website I run/maintain. As for the 'in the mood for just one band', I get that a lot. Currently I'm happy to just shuffle it around a bit, get a bit of everything. Also, I'm from Liverpool, England.

Yeah the PJ Harvey album is pretty great. I had never been a fan until that point. I write reviews for Sputnik Music, I'll link you to my review of that album (should you be interested of course!). Can't do it right now as I'm doing this on my phone.

I really love the opening track, but I've not really got into as much as I'd hoped. Needs a few more listens I reckon. You?

Oh, and great choice of album to listen to (The Information). One of my all time favourites.

No worries or rush on the replies. The last 20 hours notwithstanding, I am the world's worst at prompt replies to just about anything. Usually if I reply within three days, it's a minor miracle. Unless it's a Facebook post or something. I comment on that shit immediately, if not sooner. :)

OH! And you may already be aware of this, but XTC recorded a couple of albums under the name "The Dukes Of Stratosphear." It was kind of a tribute to psychedelic 60's rock. It's available on CD (for the cost of a regular album, at least here in the US), and worth getting if you like XTC.

I've got a lot of Andy's solo stuff, as well as some of his collaborations with other musicians. Last year I finally convinced myself to spend the money and buy the entire Fuzzy Warbles collection. But even prior to that, I had a CD of him with Harold Budd, a CD of him with Martin Newell, a solo CD of his from the long defunct Hello CD Of The Month Club, and a track he contributed to the album "No Talking Just Head" by the Heads. In truth, especially in the later years, XTC was largely a solo project for him anyway. At least when it came to the songs that he wrote. He'd write the bulk of the songs, and Colin would usually contribute a few per album. And from what I understand, there wasn't much collaboration when it came to writing the songs. The biggest difference between Andy's solo stuff and his XTC stuff is that often his solo stuff wouldn't be fully instrumented -- it would be recorded by him, at home, with whatever he had at hand.

But I totally agree about being baffled about them not being more well known. I think among musicians, at least musicians from the time period when XTC was active, they were pretty well known. And I think they may have been a bit more popular in the UK than elsewhere. I stumbled upon them completely by luck when I was 14 or 15. MTV played the Dear God video on the show 120 Minutes late one night, and I immediately bought Skylarking. And not too long after they played The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead on the same show, which obviously meant I had to get Nonesuch. And on the basis of those two albums I decided there was nothing for it but to buy everything by XTC that I could possibly find. :) The rest is history.

Yeah, my understanding is that Andy basically had a nervous breakdown on tour in the early 80's, and refused to tour thereafter. I'm sure that didn't help their exposure, but I also get the impression that starting around that time as well (and perhaps related to it), their label really lost interest in them and stopped promoting them properly (as well as screwing them out of a bunch of money). And I think things went from bad to worse with Virgin, ultimately resulting in XTC basically refusing to make any records for most of the 90's, until eventually Virgin let them out of their contract. Of course, since then they've only released the two Apple Venus albums, and my understanding is that they're basically broken up now, due to some differences between Andy and Colin. It's too bad. I've read interviews with each which don't show that while any hard feelings may have cooled down a bit, there doesn't seem to be any indication that a reunion is likely. :(
