10,000 Tracks

So I recently hit 10,000 tracks. My ten thousandth track was You Don't Love Me. My personal favorite by The Allman Brothers Band.

So i'm going to try and write a brief reason why the top 10 bands/artists are the top 10.

Lets see here…

10. The Band 349 plays. Ah yes, The Band. Without a doubt one of my favorites of all time. All of the plays have come since christmas when i pickedu p a greatest hits and after that their box set. Their music is at times simple, at times happy (Arcadian Driftwood), and at times remarkably depressing (It Makes No Difference). Either way I've never heard a song by them I don't like that. A great combination of folk, blues, rock. You can't really lose. Will without a doubt stay near the top. I've fallen in love so much with their music i go through periods where I can't listen to anything else.
Favorite Song- It Makes No Difference…When I Paint My Masterpiece, Arcadian Driftwood, I Shall Be Released and Tears of Rage follow closely behind

9. Cream 351 plays. The first of a few Eric Clapton related bands. I'm not sure when i accumlated THAT many tracks by them, but i guess they just added up over time. The band is a power house, that's all there is to it. Some of the best live work of any band I've ever heard. I will once again advertise the Those Were The Days box set as a must for the live material. They provide such a great combination insturmentally much less Jack Bruce's great voice. Just a solid band when i need some great upbeat jamming.
Favorite Song- NSU or Swlabr

8. Jeff Beck 368 plays. I'd have to say the most underrated guitar player in the blues/rock genre. He just doesn't get enough credit. He has so many great riffs and songs. His solos are always played to perfection and leave you wholly satisfied. Another artist I just turn to when nothing else is clicking
Favorite Song(s)- Cause We've Ended As Lovers, Definitely Maybe, Sleepwalk, I Can't Give Back the love you give to me (somethin like that)

7. Eric Clapton 381. Need I say anything. He is simply a phenomenal musician. His only problem is that his catalog is so large that there is a lot of junk you need to sort through to find the good stuff. Things like Tears in Heaven aren't bad songs, you may say, but they don't show case his amazing ability to play the guitar. He wrote some good songs in the late 70's/80's but its more or less his playing I love. I'll always listen to Clapton, just doesn't get old.
Favorite Song- The entire From the Cradle album

6. Derek and the Dominos 397 plays
Basically Clapton's best work in my opinion. The band as a whole I enjoye more than Cream. The backing vocals Bobby Whitlock adds are alone sufficient for me, much less his keys and organ. Jim Gordon had an unusual ability to play the most interesting drum beats that worked so well into the songs. Carl Radle was a great bassist, which is simply obvious by his ability to stay so tight with Jim and Eric especially on the Live album. Then there was Duane, the greatest slide player ever, what more could you ask for. they only composed the greatest album of all time. Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
Favorite Song- well my favorite song is Anyday, but Key To the Highway is my favorite showcase of Duane and Eric together.

5. Elton John 412 plays
Not EVERY artist i listen to revolves around amazing guitar solos. His voice and piano, I don't know, they just have a way of making me feel good. I know he didn't write his lyrics, it was Bernie Taupin or whatever his name is, but he still wrote the music. The two of them wrote some great music together. I still find that I can only listen to his first few albums though…talk about an artist who was hit hard by the 80's…
Favorite Track Holiday Inn off Madman Across the Water, my favorite album of his.
or Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters

4. Crosby, Stills, and Nash but it should really be Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young too because i listen to stuff off a CSN collection that has CSNY stuff too. 413 plays
They simply create the greatest harmonies of any band, ever. Especially the 4 of them combined tom ake some of the most beautiful and amazing music. They have a wide variety of songs and again, only the earlier stuff, but their music is definitely in a league of its own in terms of musical brilliance.
Favorite Track- Our House

3. The Beatles 422 plays
The Beatles just rack up a bunch of plays because so many of their songs are so short. I love the simple melodies and the variety of genres and vocals on the tracks. Their music wasn't always the most complex but they always succeeded in making music that is so easy to listen to. Their later years in my opinino were better, but I find it so easy to put them on shuffle and not skip a track forever. They're style was unique, pure brilliance, and it managed to change music forever…
Favorite Track- Not possible, how about Abbey Road for an album

2. The Allman Brothers Band 794 plays.
So they're pretty much my favorite band right now…Their music was unique, not quite southern rock, not quite blues or jazz, but always quality. They aren't a jam band, they're a rock band that jams. To paragraph a quote by Dave Schools the reason you can listen to a 30 minute mountain jam is because the melody is great. They took great songs and made them better by phenomenal work on all insturments. The band was weak at times, but at their prime with Duane and Dickey no band could touch them live. Today, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes do a great job in their place. While they aren't the original the band still puts on a great show and Gregg's vocals are still great. Just an amazing band with such a solid catalog of music.
Favorite Song…You Don't Love Me off of LAFE.

1. Derek Trucks Band or The Derek Trucks Band 1437
So i saw the allman brothers band july 15th 2005. After that i realized that Derek is great. I signed up for this bit on Aug 28, 2005. In the next week i attended my first DTB show. I was hooked. It conveniently coincided with my account creation on here, so the entire thing is slightly biased, but basically i've gone through periods over the last 11 months where its all i can listen to…his music is amazing. Its this idaeal fusion of a variety of genres that comes together in this harmony. its the essence of good music. One of the bands that leaves me with confidence that music has not died, that sees the meaning of music and exemplifies it through their amazing live performances. I plead that anyone who reads this entry and has any interest in any of the other artists on my list to check them out. Their shows are posted for free on archive.org, come on…its that easy. You will not be dissapointed. There is something unique in their music, the way they jam…it might be the flute player that can play keys and the organ too, who knows, but its great. I'll stop this seeing as its very redundant. Their music is amazing and i highly suggest you check out Derek, his slide guitar work is impeccable (figured i'd try a new adjective).
