Ahh! I have all my music "virtualised", so I use the PC for all listening, still buy CD's, but rip them to FLAC and everything gets streamed to the HiFi via my Squeezebox these days!

You're into Norwegian jazz, so where the hell is Jan Garbarek in your lists? Maybe I'm just having a "senior moment", but I didn't see him! :)

Hi, thanks for dropping by. Apart from the "super" compatible label, I can see several possible connections, but where did we "meet"? Very nice lists by the way. Feel free to drop by any time.

Hi Stu, actually there are 2 nights - 3 concerts, as you will easily find out (also on my profile) - so it's a Hilliard mini-festival, but I dare to encourage you to come to that second special concert with new music, and please also spread the news around :)))

New programme includes pieces from "Officium" and "Mnemosyne" CDs and quite new material, old sacred chants from Russia and Armenia, and also "Most Holy Mother of God" by Arvo Pärt and James MacMillans' "... here in hiding...". They have been touring Europe with this new programme since October 2008, and soon they will visit St Gerold's Monastery in Austria to make a new recording (I hope so).

Conóceme

Step-father to 3 guys.
Into 70s metal + prog rock, Miles Davis & anyone who worked with him, Norwegian jazz, ECM, DGM, British folk music, early and baroque music, Porcupine Tree, TMV, The Bays, West Ham, Peter Greenaway films, photography (but I'm not very good at it) and walking the dog.
Hates: the use of irrelevant superlatives, people from outside London who say " I couldn't possibly live there" as if they're so fucking special, when a really good song is too short, people who blame others because "they should have known better", and the incorrect use of apostrophes. Oh yeah, and war, poverty, bigotry, etc.

Musical diversity:

A Jazz fan dies and goes to heaven. When he gets to the Pearly Gates, St. Peter asks him where he'd like to go first - so the guy says he'd like to go to a jazz club.
When they get to the one St. Peter recommends, there's all sorts of people sitting at the bar listening to the music - Dizzy, Duke, Bird, etc. - but at the far end is a guy in a dazzling, well-cut suit, wearing shades and smoking.
"Who's that?" asks the guy.
"It's God," says St. Peter: "He thinks he's Miles Davis.

John Martyn:
"We’d check into a hotel drunk and Danny or I would slam a load of money on the counter and say, ‘That’s for the damage’. The receptionist would always look bemused and say, ‘There isn’t any’, then we’d say, ‘There fucking will be!’ "

Chet Baker:
"If I could play like Wynton, I wouldn't play like Wynton."

Claude Debussy:
"In opera, there is always too much singing."

Tom Morello:
"A good song should make you wanna tap your feet and get with your girl. A great song should destroy cops and set fire to the suburbs. I’m only interested in writing great songs."

Igor Stravinsky:
"Harpists spend 90 percent of their lives tuning their harps and 10 percent playing out of tune. "
