It is the only one I have heard. Pretty forgettable though to me anyway. Is their other stuff any better?

that was of course exaggerated but srsly dude, all you do is flame on those threads. It's not like you post sth. in the vain of "I don't like the cleans, as they are too emo for my taste"... You flame and post that stuff in a way that's pretty much a no brainer, therefor that kind of answer ;)

Yeah, you make a point. It also depends on the riff. Some aren't meant to be repetitive, some just ask for it. The kind of (black) metal I like the most is predictable, repetitive and simple. Diversity is necessary, but I'd say there's more to that than technical aspect :)

Since when amount of riffs equals quality of the album? :P

um heartwork came out 1993 so does skydancer. i dont think it depents on the release date so much, as they could've played or developed the style before. but DT is definetly one of the first MDM bands along carcass, in flames, at the gates and amorphis

I heard some album by At the Gates a long time ago, I don't actually remember its name, I guess I was not impressed by it. Thanks for the recommendation, but I'm not going to check them out. I barely even listen to metal, there are really not many metal artists I like.

Well, I can listen to some things from this genre. Not with a great pleasure, but still. Heartwork by Carcass, early Arch Enemy (Stigmata and Burning Bridges), The Jester Race by In Flames, some things by Opeth. But that's it. The rest of the stuff I've heard from this genre was pure junk. Basically, I hate it because of predictable so-called "melodic" guitar solos and riffing and crappy vocals. Generally, for me it all sounds like a heavier version of power metal, and power metal is just a joke. In my opinion, heavy guitar music should be driven by riffs, not solos which most of the time sound out of place. That's why Slipknot is far better than Dark Tranquillity. But I do not deny that good guitar solos exist. For example, chaotic and soulless solos can sound very nice and interesting, Meshuggah and Gorguts are perfect examples. And, on the other hand, blues-like solos by early Black Sabbath are fine too. But "melodic" solos fucking suck.

Sorry for hurting your deepest feelings in the Slipknot shoutbox. I guess you'll never forgive me for that :(

I sure read the lyrics. I think Insomnium has a lot of poetic and insightful lyrics, including on Above the Weeping World as well (like In the Groves of Death which is much deeper to me). But in this case I just think the music is average on this one. Just my opinion anyway.

I don't know why people like Last Statement, although some say it reminds them of Opeth so maybe that's why. I have no sympathy towards the classic melodeath sound, I admit that.

i agree the vocals are death metal, but that's it. there's more to death metal than the vocals, even melodic death metal. melodic metal is a very vague term so most people settle for calling insomnium melodic death metal because of the vocals. fans of melodic death metal would probably like them anyway so its not a real biggie just a mistake, to me at least.

Face down, arms out
Nailed to the cross of doubt
Blood runs like rain
Drowning for this world in vain

Crown of black thorns
Human skin, ripped and torn

Human skin, ripped and torn
Where is your savior now?
