That said, though, I think Trace needs time, and I'm definitely willing to put it in. Oh, and thanks for the GBV advice. :-)

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I'd've done the same, but your seemingly simple question shamed me a bit, to be honest: while I've had some Wilco in my library for years -- and, of the albums I had, particularly liked AM -- I hadn't even scratched the surface of that answer, I realized. I stumbled upon Uncle Tupelo a few weeks ago... and literally did a double-take at the stereo as the first track, Before I Break, started up. I haven't felt this way about a band in a long, long time. Anyway, those two facts (likin' AM and lovin' the Tupelo roots) inspired me to bottom out early Wilco (Being There and Summerteeth) and Son Volt (Trace), as well as actually buying some Tupelo -- the '89-'93 anthology -- to add to my d/l'ed radio sessions. And I see what you mean. Most folks would fall in one camp, and I guess mine's Tweedy's. Being There is great (so far), and I still love AM (despite a lot of the sites I've since read really pan it, particularly beside Trace).

Hey, I notice we've got some stuff in common, but I don't know Guided By Voices. Sounds like their sound could've changed a lot over the various line-ups; which album do you like best? Cheers!
