Indeed. Defunct royal highnesses don't know how to make morning levees anymore. However, they do sponsor both green endeavours and, thank God, John Tavener.

Not one, for sure. Well, i found the pose ridiculously grand- have you seen his hairdo and turban?! and i'm a fan of the British Raj. So...just imagine His Highness with his pointed shoes dancing to the tune of Elgar's Crown of India. Also, it reminded me of one of Satyajit Ray's film- The Chess Players.

Last fm tells me our music compaitibility is super, but I have a feeling you wouldn't enjoy listening to my library.. at all. Yours is just as I expected, I love it. Setting my mum up convinced me round; I had to see what all the fuss was about. Now I'm stuck searching through songs when I should be writing a history essay.. I blame you ;)

Ha, I do take pride in my versatile taste! :D Estland is the name of the land I live in, yes, it's quite a beautiful place I daresay. From my paternal line I've Swedish ancestry as well, but it's from the more distant past. Not sure of any exact ways in which to continue the conversation, but I'm sure in time some options will show up!

Grumio est coquus, Metella in horto sedebat etc. Glad to hear dead languages are still alive. The avatar is The Doubtful Guest by Edward Gorey (who sadly died last year) - you should check him out. Are you really 16?

Because our school are quite wierd. We chose our options in year 8, getting a year extra on all the courses, because of SATS being scrapped. We are split into 3 bands according to intelligence(or supposed intellgence, depending on your perspective) and the higher band has to do a language alongside the other options. You take it a year early and in year 11 you get an extra english and maths lesson. What subjects do you take?

The National? Wow, that sounds really good! Thanks for all this great advice! I haven't heard of that play, but it sounds great. Oh, I heard another Smetana piece today - Vltava, I think it was called...? Ugh, yeah. GCSEs can be so annoying, especially mocks. We've done so many mocks it feels pointless. I just want to do the real exams and get them out of the way! We've done some - about 6 sciences and one maths, but not much else :P But A-levels are exciting. What do you plan on taking? Sorry for my delayed reply, by the way!

  • TragicSymphony

I know, it's never proved true for me either XD Ah well, I guess we can't all be Bach. Oh, do tickets really get that cheap? :D I've told my parents about it so hopefully I can go one day...haha, my dad's first reaction was "What's a Barbican?" Shame about the exams...GCSEs? All exams are pretty dry, anyway...:( Good luck with them, though!

    Mayo 2010
  • TragicSymphony

Yeah, I would love to go see the LSO at the Barbican, but all the good tickets are expensive (well, in relation to the amount of money I have, at least :P)...and I have exams coming up. Damn exams. But thanks for the recommendation, hopefully I'll be able to go...some day! And with regards to Smetana...oh yes, I've definitely heard of the Bartered Bride, and even listened to the Overture several times. I'm familiar with Vaughan Williams (although I doubt he's in my library...I'd better add him in), but not Copland. Ah - wait - he wrote Fanfare for the Common Man, didn't he? I've heard that, at least! :D But I agree - Last.fm has definitely broadened my knowledge and experience of composers and such. Don't worry about spending too long on the computer...people tell me I spend way too long on the piano. If you want to learn, I think you should! As Bach says, "there's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself!"

  • TragicSymphony

Yes, I don't have many friends in real life who enjoy classical music, sadly enough, but there are a few! Ah yes, there are many unfamiliar names in my library, even to me. I'm not quite sure how all of them got there. XD But by Dvorak do you mean our friend Antonín Dvořák? If he's not in my library, then that is absolutely ridiculous of me. I love many of his pieces, including his Humoresque...Unfortunately, I had not heard of Smetana up to now. You're right - my library lacks many great composers, but I am more familiar with the Germans, Italians, etc. than the British and American, I'm afraid. Having recently moved to London, hopefully that will change!

No problem. Oh, I didn't put Stravinksy? D= I must have been off that day. xD And I'm not sure if I've heard Ives before. Hm, I'm sure you've heard Ligeti? Devil's Staircase [Etude 13 I believe?] is the perfect piece for when you want a nice headache. xDDD
