That Goat album from last year is truly like nothing I've ever heard, so so good!

Thanks, man! I found it while I was looking for more information about the new Orgone album. It just seemed to come out of the blue, so I was curious about it. Anyway, I've got your site bookmarked now, it's really great!

Heya dude, sorry I couldn't keep up with the blog. I was very intrigued with the idea originally and had hoped to regularly contribute but the timing was a little crazy with work. Best of luck with it anyway, you're killing it! :)

Masters of Reality. I've been meaning to check them out forever. Thanks for reminding me. As for Asia, I honestly feel that they were a product of the times and little else

Having said that, you can't exactly call, oh I dunno, Magma, straight rock. I think when you go into new wave territory, etc etc there's a certain clean pop sensibility detracting from the rough and rugged nature of rock music - or even its transcendental facet (E: krautrock/spacerock)

To be honest with you I've just started second year of uni so there hasn't been time to investigate much 80s prog, yet. Re-listened to 80s Crimson and I stand by my original assertion that it is hard to judge whether it is straight rock or new wave with emphatic prog elements

No, not really. My parents were both avid prog collectors, and have thousands of albums. I would go through them when I was little looking at the album art. It turns out most of the album art I liked came from Prog records, so I would spin them. I started with Pink Floyd, Genesis, but then finally caught the bug with Yes. Yes is my undisputed #1 favourite band of all time, and I wanted to find more. Once searching for more, I stumbled upon PT, and fell in love as well. They were my gateway to neo-prog I guess you could say.(I know neo-prog is kind of a b.s. term, but I mean it in sense that PT is prog from post 70s)

I think Songs from the Wood is a great fusion between more "pop" Jethro Tull, and of their ways of old. It is one of my favourites, but I don't find myself going back to it very often (some kind of weird contradiction in my own taste - oh well!). My favourite JT album is Minstrel though, I love every second of that album. TaaB is a close #2, but I don't care much for A Passion Play. I recommend checking out the band "SBB" if you haven't already. They have such a solid discography, I'm surprised to not see them mentioned more anywhere. Pameic is a good place to start if you are interested.

Caravan, an excellent feature on your list. What's your favourite album / track? I must say that L'Auberge Du Sanglier is my stand alone favourite (as well as on my favourite album) - which seems to be unusual as a pick from other Caravan fans. I also love the bonus track, oh whichever release it was, "Derek's Long Thing". If you haven't heard that track, I recommend hunting it down.
