Long time have passed since I wrote the last journal in here. Almost three years to be precise. Partially it was due to the permanent lack of time or maybe some laziness in the subject of music (due to lack of time again). But now I'm proud to say that I'm back to the music and very glad of it.
Well, so what has changed? It is quite obvious, while looking at my Music Library. Many new names and genres that've never been there before, moreover it was even hard to imagine they'll ever appear there. Pure stats with jazz & flamenco only are now crowded with a very inconsistent (according to genres) group of musicians. I'm wondering myself, how was it possible to listen to so much of SADE and Sting next to Frank Zappa and Béla Fleck + some j-rock stars like Shiina Ringo and Kajiura Yuki and all that spiced up with Prince, immortal Jaco Pastorius and (really, my favourite) Bebo & Cigala.
What is not apparent from the stats due to listening from records is the rise of Brad Mehldau. He along with the Brecker Brothers (Mike Stern, Jimi Hendrix, Weather Report etc) creates the mainstream, that is only occasionally supported with the so-called rest, visible in the stats. Though I must admit it: for the first two months of the year 2010 I was listening to classical music and Brad Mehldau only, not capable to listen to anything else (I still don't know why).
What else? Rock'n'Roll of course! With that cowboy hat and leather jacket visible in my avatar photo what else could it be. Aforementioned Jimi plus Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton… Roy Buchanan's blues, Ray Charles' blues and good old flamenco are also present. Just guess, what'll be the next step?
