Kataklysm was great, I must admit they're very tight and their "hits"…As I slither, Shadows and Dust etc..got the usual responses. Unfortunately, the two bands that followed, Devil Driver and Unearth also got similar responses. So much for discerning taste.
Dimmu Borgir was just as they were when they toured 2-3 years ago, showy, flamboyant and a bit over the top. The kiddies ate it up and it wasn't that bad actually, provided you don't actively dislike DB. As far as rock and roll entertainment goes, a decent night. Of course, if you're one of those who takes metal way too seriously and can't see past the act, it probably sucked for you.
I met Kataklysm after their performance, which leads me to another point. Most bands are goofy, love to have fun and drink and all that stuff, yet their posters or band pics always present them as threatening and intimidating and so on. It's laughable. The guys in Kataklysm were friendly, down to earth and appreciative. Or maybe it was all an act, who knows?
Anyway, a good time was had by all in one of Canada's premier concert venues.
