Hi. The pre-order for the upcoming Holy Spooks record began. So the snips of the music are also on the Tribulation website. Judging from the snips this album will be his most carnaval-esque yet, but I don't know, seems like this time the sound fits the concept well. It's a Halloween album after all.

I can safely say that 100% of people that I know who listen to TPB have been introduced to them via me! :D I barely even meet people who like psychobilly, but there should be some. At least in the older generation. I've been contemplating a lot of ideas what to do until i get my degree and can begin to work in the academia. Fanzine would be a great way to gain experience! Your interview will be in Finnish?

Wow, that;s great. Perhaps I should start a similar project here, I would love to but music like that ain't that popular here unlike in Finland (from what I've gathered). Maybe someday, haha.

You're writing for a magazine? Well, if you're interviewing guys like Lonesome Wyatt then it means its quite something!

And where did you get this piece of news, might I ask?

Really? So fast after Heartsick! I'm afraid Lonesome shifted his main creative direction from TPB to Holy Spooks.

Mine is Sackcloth 'n' Ashes, for some reason Secret South took some time for me to appreciate even though my favorite 16HP song is on it - Burning Bush. Moving back to Behold the Abyss, what precise songs do you like/think are good and which of them are bad?

Black Lightning (being my first TPB song) holds a special place in my heart, oh how I love those swirling distorted guitars. On another note, what is your favorite 16HP album? What a shame they disbanded 'cause I can't seem to get really into Woven Hand for some reason (there's a new album out). Furthermore, what's your take on Swans?

I fell in love with the same Those Poor Bastards, because you showed me them, haha. I consider The Plague to be one of the most extraordinary albums ever released. I love how it's experimental. but doesn't fall just into the dark cabaret/carnival/ghost etc. category. There's still that old time country vibe all over the record, just with warped experimental (brilliant!) arrangements. And I miss the vibe now. The older albums just feel more thought and worked out. I can only agree that Wyatt should slow down a bit with new material, work more carefully on it. I wouldn't mind him releasing a live album of "hits" instead.

Sadly, I have to agree with what you said. Back when Gospel Haunted was released, I remember you claimed that TPB are slowly steering away from the primitive country to some sort of dark carnavalesque sound. I disagreed then. But I can't deny it any longer, because it's especially apparent on BTA (from what I've heard so far, snippets and a few full songs on youtube). Another matter I find troublesome (based on the few tracks I've heard) is that they sound too much Heartsick prodcution-wise (Wyatt was probably working on both simultaneously). I really hope I'm just rashly jumping to conclusions.

No, unfortunately, I'm broke at the present moment. I hope my predicament will change by the next month and I will be able secure the new TPB stuff. What are your impressions of the new album? The book?

There's something I wonder. I keep hearing about the racist aspect of country music, but something does not compute for me. I'm sure you know more about the history and the relation of country music and american black culture.

So I got a little into Townes van Zandt... Damn, the version of Waitin' Around to Die from Heartworn Highways is a wrecker. Come to think of it, most of his songs are heart wreckers. What a song-writer, so honest and powerful. Damn fine musician! :)
