Hey Morgan, I have a fair amount of free space in my last year of college, and I am trying to figure out what classes to take. And, well, I am torn between taking a year long sequence in Spanish or the year long Fundamentals in Harmonics (Basically Music Theory I, II, III) that is designed for first year music majors. Seeing as you started off intending to be a composer, I was wondering if you had taken this sequence, what you thought of it, etc. I have a decade long history of playing piano, though since I completed lessons I admittedly ceased reading sheet music as much, and I never really read it as fluently as others (reading sheet music is a prerequisite for the class). Also I will be taking physical chemistry that entire year too, so I'm not sure if is like to take the music theory class if it is going to be very demanding. Well, all these questions stand under the assumption that you actually learned the class, but I look forward to hearing back from you in any case!!

salut monsieur morgan! i finally got around to listen to that ae glasgow set you shared a couple days ago and it was a fantastic listen. i love hearing the crowd's reaction at various points, it adds to the atmosphere! that site [percussionlabdotcom] is a gold mine. i'm particularly fond of http://www.percussionlab.com/sets/jedi_knights/intergalactic_funk_transmission long live the funk!! thx again. k

I will definitely investigate Charlie Looker! And sorry, but I am not entirely sure I understood your second comment lol "if you want an awesome tip on some original plainchant you should check out this awesome dude Anonymous (you're welcome.)" !!

Machaut was wonderful too, though I'll admit I was most surprised to hear that he was the one who composed Rose, Liz, Printemps, Verdure!! That's been a favorite song of mine for a while now, but I'd only had the artist name as the group who actually performed the recording. I'm still very foreign to plainchant & madrigal but I hope soon I'll grow some sort of understanding for it!!

Thank you very much for recommending Gavin Bryars!! I listened to Sinking of the Titanic/Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet several times yesterday and was moved to tears during the latter!! Extremely beautiful! Wonderful! What would you recommend by John Luther Adams? I listened to The Light That Fills the World yesterday, and while admittedly I was not giving it my full attention, I was not sure I could differentiate this work entirely from other rather distasteful ambient works!

and oh god i've been discovering some gems in that aphex soundcloud dump. seriously this is like the techno equivalent of the nag hammadi library. i love trying to tease out which year each of the tracks are from. i'm amazed at how much seems to be SAW 85-92 outtakes; i assumed that that album was all he'd done in that style.

he seems to me like someone who's familiar with and has studied couperin harpsichord pieces, tibetan and arabic classical music but just wants to make music that sounds like kondo koji and uematsu nobuo, which i really relate to ofc. :3 i've been on a classical binge lately, mostly older (pre-20th c) stuff so i'm not sure how much of it is up your alley, but you'd probably enjoy this disc of 14th century music from cyprus: http://www.amazon.com/The-Island-St-Hylarion-Ensemble/dp/B000000R2Y -- also yoshimura nanae's amazing "art of the koto" series is full of chilling stuff. if you have a free minute or 18, give this a liss'in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTvXd1fQ45o&list=PLyIKDMnr5jt10DMJo_u9gHMDp-oUNKaUv -- be sure to have a cup of sencha handy ^^

I saw Force Majeure earlier today and noticed you had seen it -- is it as similar to The Loneliest Planet as people are saying? I think I remember you recommending that film a few years ago.

I wasn't very impressed either. Though, I wasn't listening very intently; I'm gonna have to give it another spin. Something about the cover just seems very -off- with the Rivulets aesthetic too
