We need women rappers!

"Music is a male-dominated industry." I've heard these words in news reports, spoken-word poetry, on buses and on trains. No one can deny them, at least not in America. It's common knowledge, especially of the hypermasculinized domain of rap music. Men standing around talking, hoards of booties shaking by the pool, we know the deal.

I'm not particularly upset by the fact that there are so many women in America looking to get paid by dancing half-naked on national television. They chose their fate. What I'm mad about is that I have seen no opportunity, save for Missy Elliott and TLC, for the woman to have her turn to rock the mic.

Queen Latifah, as well, I suppose, but it became clear she'd denounced her thone back in 2003 with Bringing Down the House...

Anyway, we need us some female rappers. Since the tragic death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, it seems like Missy's been holding it down on her own, but it doesn't need to be that way. I know dozens of phenomenal females looking to get in the limelight (including myself)! We're all out here, we're all just as good as the men, perhaps even better.

We'd usher in a rap industry devoid of the degradation of women, with less mindless babble of cars, money, and luxuriously useless crap. Sure, you'd probably get more stuff about lying, cheating men; independence; "bitch stay away from my man"; one-night stands; and maybe, as the industry becomes more and more feminized, the horrors of premenstrual cramps. But those would just be the growing pains! Once men and women have attained equal ground in the industry, do you think we could function?

Happily, I mean.TLCMissy ElliottQueen LatifahLisa "Left Eye" Lopes

Lauryn Hill is supposed to be coming out with a new album. From Wikipedia: Hill has supposedly completed work on her second studio album. However, online-chat claimed that Columbia, her record label, is refusing to release it. A petition is currently being circulated online by fans, hoping to persuade Columbia to release the album, which Columbia deems not radio friendly and fears would not be the same as the commercially successful The Miseducation. Insiders who claim to have listened to the new album say it is brilliant, genius, and a masterpiece. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauryn_Hill#Current_projects
