Definitely Savile! We get put in bands throughout the year, given tasks for a month or two leading up to an assessment - a gig, basically - and they mark you on your performance. For example, recently, we had 10 weeks to put together and rehearse 36 songs (all 3 bands from the degree learn the same songs) and then they told us our 16 song set list a week before the assessment so we could rehearse the set for a week. There should be something on YouTube somewhere on my channel. It will all be first year stuff though, so we're all a bit better now! http://www.youtube.com/mulleno Denmark sounds interesting, though. Still Carlsberg-ing?

It has! Yeah everything's pretty good here too. Student life is ace, but very busy! A music degree seems to require a LOT more work than any other degree, in terms of hours put in.. 12 hour days and the like. It's great, though. Being a musician is excellent. How is work/the family etc?

Thank you for the photos/videos, Tone. Gosh you were close! She looks divine as ever..definitely yet to overcome my childhood crush on her. I'll be looking forward to a dvd or bluray as I did read somewhere that a Paris show was professionally filmed. Still uncertain as to whether she'll be coming down under, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

You lucky bastard!! :D I am incredibly happy for you! I've seen a select few clips on youtube and it all looks brilliant. Her Express Yourself/Born This Way/She's Not Me mash is some silly fun- I do hope it wasn't supposed to be a genuine stab at GaGa for plagiarism..because that would be a tad hypocritical. I thought what she did with Nobody Knows me (possibly my favourite track from my favourite Madonna album) was excellent. Oh and her remake of Like a Virgin..amazing as per usual. What were your highlights?

I had a similar view after the first listen. Lovespent's definitely grown on me, as has the 2nd single. Generally, I don't like the sound of the whole album- too much noise and not strong enough melodies..paired with particularly bland lyrics (Some Girls, Give Me All Your Luvin', Superstar), doesn't do much for me. However, I'm a Sinner is a stand out! Totally reminiscent of that 'Beautiful Stranger'/Music era sound that I immediately connect with Madonna. Strong, fun track. Couldn't ask for more- hope it's released as a single. I also adore I Fucked Up and Beautiful Killer which is why I'm disappointed they're only bonus tracks- what were they thinking?! There's too many of her albums I prefer over this one- Confessions, HC, Erotica, RoL so it's towards the middle. Potential to shift up though, lot more listens to come! I have heard! I'm mostly anxious about the concert dvd. About bloody time!

A wanker, perhaps. But his accuracy when predicting how Superbowl performances will go is a talent in itself. Is there a Marvin in JLS? I only know them by the nicknames I give them; "Whiney", "Cringey", "Simple" and "The Other One". Actually, most boybands have an "other one". I swear there was a Boyzone video on TV once and I literally said "who the fuck is THAT?" when their "other one" appeared on the screen. I thought he was just some random bloke. Either way, it's a depressing fact to learn, and no doubt it wouldn't have happened if Simon Cowell wasn't such a big TV star over there.

I thought her Superbowl was hilarious. Especially when she struggled to get up on a platform. It was somewhere between Springsteen's crotch-first glide into the camera and Janet Jackson's breast. Kinda felt like there was something off about it (funnily enough, my former namesake was on Howard Stern just beforehand and they were talking about Springsteen's one, and Stern said that Elton John was on a few weeks before and basically said her performance would be completely lip synched and shit). Hahaha...read that about Humpy-poo. Who cares, though, really? Does anyone other than the contestants take it seriously?

HA! Yeah, pretty much. Did you see Madonna's superbowl? That's not a euphemism.

He has captured the zeitgeist perfectly. Without a doubt one of his most powerful records. The only thing annoying me is that it's a 62 year old guy who has made this album. Where the fuck is the voice of THIS generation.

Album I haven't been able to stop playing since about October..."Condensate" by The Original 7ven...basically it's The Time, but Prince wouldn't let them use the name. Jam and Lewis appear to have done most of it. Samples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY11eByajYU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuYpoWf2KZ0

I'll tell you...he did all of the hits (other than "Ant Rap", but luckily including "Wonderful", which always sounds to me like a Suede outtake), and he did a surprising amount of his earlier, punkier stuff. Weirdly, his backing singer was Andrew Sach's satanic slut Manuelgate Brand-fucking granddaughter. He was a bit phased by an alarming amount of feedback, but other than that he seems full of beans. The new song he played was fucking good too (called "Vince Taylor")...and ended the whole thing with a couple of T.Rex songs. Next time he comes around, I reccommend you go. If only because you don't know if he'll lose it again. Actually, I've got a DVD of his called "Stand and Deliver", and apparently one of the conditions for Michael Jackson playing Motown 25 was that Adam Ant be on the bill too. Is Fratelli preping another album already?

Didn't know you liked him. One of the greatest moments in all the gigs I've been to is how nuts the audience went when, about 5 songs in, he yells "Stand And Delivvvvveeeerrrrrrrr".

Woah...it's actually uncanny. Looking forward to that. Oh, I'll tell you what...I went to see Adam Ant the other week. I gotta say...he was fucking brilliant. Hope he stops being mental long enough for his "comeback" to take full effect. Judging by the oerformance I saw, he fucking deserves it.

I did sort of get Bruce tickets. I was gonna go to the Manchester show, but after they announced him and the other headliners for the Isle of Wight festival (Tom Petty & Pearl Jam, thank you very much...along with New York Dolls, The Darkness, Noah & The Whale, Feeder, Madness, Joan Armatrading, The Vaccines & Noel Gallagher, another thank you very much), then my brother & I started to drool, as did a certain Mr Mullen...so I/we will be there instead. I'm just gonna have to just stay drunk enough to not care about hygiene. Just a pity a few of my other mates had already gotten Bruce tickets for Manchester (which takes place on the Friday). As for MaxJax...I have absolutely no reason to care. 2012...if no permanent work pops up soon, I'm applying to my masters. Might as well. How about you? Planning any murders?

You didn't miss anything with 2011wipe really. Maybe the worst episode he's done. Christmas/New Year was...um...I dunno. Weird. No real reason why. Just felt odd. I trust yours was tolerable?

I fucking loved it. It started out a bit ridiculous, but by the end they'd made you believe it. Impressive stuff. Basically...(no spoliers here, it's just the basic premise that you could see on the write-ups) the most popular (fictional) member of the Royal Family had been kidnapped and would only be released if the (fictional) Prime Minister had sex with a pig on live TV at 4pm that day. It sounds stupid, but how many people tune in to "I'm A Celebrity" every day to see someone from McFly eat a Kangaroo's anus? It's not too far removed. Anyhow, the twitter mob exploded and so forth. It seemed to be about the public's growing (and sick) thirst for people they don't like by sheer virtue of their position to be humiliated beyond belief and the kind of cyber-bullying that you get on Twitter (Rebecca Black, anyone?). I think they're repeating episode 1 this week. Oh...also...2011wipe coming to BBC4 on New Years Eve-Eve.

There's been some great stuff on there recently. They've had an American Culture season. A few documentaries on African American 80s pop stars (Janet/Prince/Lionel Rich Tea/Public Enemy), stuff on old movies and TV shows, in-depth interviews with American icons, something about the romantic symbolism of the American Diner...interesting stuff. Love BBC4. I'm gonna miss it when they sell it off to fund more BBC3 shows about fat people. I know what you mean about Clarkson. The funny thing is, I saw it as a joke about bias at the BBC. If a comedian said that on stage, would anyone give a shit? Double standards, really. On a side salad...did you catch Black Mirror on Channel 4?

HA! ZING! Did you happen to catch the Prince and Janet Jackson documentaries on BBC Four? Both were pretty good. I found myself enjoying the Janet one much more than I expected to, and the Prince one did a pretty good job of squeezing everything into an hour.

I did see it and thought it was crap. It worked with Paul Rodgers for a reason. The same reason it doesn't work with Lambert. Namely, with Lambert it actually does look/sound like a tribute act, whereas with Rodgers, it didn't (hence, why at least a quarter of the set consisted of some of Paul Rodgers' many hits...in fact I think Another One Bites The Dust aside, Bad Co were bigger in America than Queen ever were). Actually, it's interesting that they would work with someone like Adam Lambert and appear on shows like X Factor/American Idol after writing "C-Lebrity", which was having a go at all the people involved with those shows. The more I'm seeing Brian May (in particular) around these days, the more I hate him. Which is sad, because he's always been one of my heroes, and I've defended him so much in the past for the some of his more controversial post-Freddie projects, but now he's really starting to take the piss.

Yeah, I read about George Michael. Bit weird. I thought it was only the Cardiff shows that have been affected so far, though. I hear Brian May is to work with Dappy. That may be the most depressing thing I've ever read.

They were awesome. Actually surpassed my expectations. Flea is a MACHINE. I think they're one of those bands where you have to expect that you may not always hear all the big hits. Springsteen is the same, and REM...and Prince...and Iron Maiden...and (well, you get the idea...actually, I really only said that because Bruce is back and I'm fucking DELIGHTED). But, you know, if they're playing well enough then it doesn't have to matter. They did play Under The Bridge, though. When did you see them?

Yeah, the Liam Neeson bit was one of the funniest things I've seen on TV in a while. I really liked Depp in it too. To be fair, a helluva lot of what Gervais does strikes me as a different take on David Brent...but I think that's mainly because he specialises in cringe comedy. I did, indeed, go and see RHCP with our very own Mr. Mullen, as a matter of fact. Why would you think they're not my "bag"? Actually, I'd have thought they wern't your bag.

Glad to hear it. I thought you'd like some of them, but I wasn't sure about others. Although, I maintain he's better live (preferably one of his solo acoustic shows...they're like mass singalongs). I think my favourite on EKMB would be "Glory Hallelujah". Not because of the atheist message, but because the lyrics are actually really life-affirming (other than the "there never was no God" double negative).

I'm guessing that's due to the riots. Doesn't bode well. Actually, Mr Turner announced he's headlining Wembley Arena yesterday. Mental. I could throw some Frank together on a CD and send it to ye to bridge the gap until HMV have EKMB in stock if you do so wish me to do so. Haven't got round to Boardwalk season 1 yet...still hasnt been released on DVfuckingD. And of course I've been watching Curb. Larry David: Social Assassin. How are you anyways? Long time, no wasting away precious time discussing bullshit...

Forgive my lack of reply. Been very busy with a radio pitch. Busy, busy fucking busy. Glad Jon was good. Which gig did you go to? I went to the Revival Tour the other week. I was only really going because Gaslight Anthem's frontman was one of the guys on it, but the whole night was amazing. Four guys from punk and rock bands playing folky versions of their own stuff, some songs they'd written for solo albums and this tour and a bunch of fun little covers. When they wern't playing, they were sitting at the back of the stage drinking beer and singing and dancing to whoever happened to be playing. Couldn't recommend it enough. Great idea. Started about 8pm and went straight through until about 11.15...shattered curfew and didn't give a shit. Just a bunch of guys having fun...made you appreciate it all the more...

Well...over the last couple days, Portsmouth. But before that...looking for work (which is really difficult, given that Liverpool is one of the cities with the least amount of jobs going). And when I wasn't looking for work, I was working my last few weeks out, dealing with a massive shitload of shit that kicked off in my last few weeks or developing a radio idea. A fucking good one at that. And moping about. I did a lot of that too. You been up to anything exfuckingciting as of late? Frank album come yet?

I tried watching Dead Set when they showed them in an omnibus, but I fell asleep after about 20 minutes and woke up not knowing what the hell was going on. I've been working like a Japanease prisoner of war (but a happy one). Which is ironic, seeing as they're effectively kicking me out next week.
