Nice one and yeah there's always something going on but it's a case of having enough money to see everything haha. What's it like in Reading? It'll be my first festival. What should I expect?

Sameee. I'm stoked for Joey Badass too. There's definite talent and he's got some nice production - I get a similar vibe to Nas's debut. And nah, London. Yourself?

Field Day was awesome! The music was predictably great and I bumped into some people by chance that I never thought I'd see it again, which was nice. I'm going to Vision Fest in August before I jet off to California, where I'm looking at a bunch of other gigs, so I'm super excited. A summer of music it seems. I'm so excited to hear that Björk is collaborating with Death Grips on every track on their new album. Two genuinely interesting artists. Actually, I've been thinking about rap a lot lately. What do you think of people who dismiss all rap/hip hop as not being "real music" and similar such shit? It stinks of racism to me, to dismiss something that's so closely associated with a persecuted culture. I mean, it's no longer okay to say "I hate black people" so racists attack the culture instead. Where do you live, by the way? Et ouais, ca va. Trés, trés bien en actualité.

I totally agree that an artists' views or actions shouldn't stop you enjoying the music if it's really good quality. Besides, I prefer artists who have something to say, even if I disagree with it, than some vacuous bimbo or douchebag who only opens their mouth when they have music to sell. Hah. Sorry for taking so long to reply, by the way - I've been in LDN for Field Day and then was down for all of yesterday. I really appreciate that you're interested in other cultures and learning French because too many people are too wrapped up in their own little worldview and what they see immediately in front of them to take an interest in the wider world and all its treasures, and it's incredibly sad. I know a little Spanish, a tiny bit of Swedish and a tiny amount of French. Salut, je suis Ashley, comment t'appelle-tu?

Then Rid of Me is where I'll start. The fact that she supports fox hunting kinda lingers heavy over her music, but she's an interesting artist regardless. Oh man, French cinema. Jean-Luc Godard is probably the best French director so you should start with him. As for actual films, three of my favourites are: Les Diaboliques (1955); Les Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without a Face) (1960); Un Prophete (2009); and Blue is the Warmest Colour (2013). As for literature, I can't really help you. ;( Apart from Strindberg, Dostoyevsky and the big American writers, I'm a bit lost with that kind of thing. Time to get reading! Why did you ask for French literature/films?

i'm actually finding it hard to get into her, just like it's hard to get into any artist with a big discography. I love Let England Shake of course, but that's her most recent, so which album do you suggest I start with? and thanks about the about me thing; I think it's important to make a good first impression!
