  • Installing Audioscrobbler for XMMS

    I recently discovered that a lot of people don't know how to install audioscrobbler for XMMS on linux. Here's how (on Gentoo at least).

    1. Firstly, download the latest library of 'MusicBrainz' --> http://musicbrainz.org/ftpmirror/pub/musicbrainz/libmusicbrainz-2.1.2.tar.gz.

    2. Download the plugin for XMMS --> http://www.last.fm/help/plugin/download.php?id=7.

    3. Now decompress and extract the files from the two files.

    4. 'cd' into the "libmusicbainz-X-X-X" (where 'X-X-X' is the version number. E.g.: '2.1.2') do, in order:
    ./configure
    make
    make install

    Then, and this is VERY important, do 'ldconfig' (as root!)

    5. So having the library installed it's time for the actual plugin now. 'cd' into the directory of it's residing;
    ./configure
    make
    make install

    6. Now you're all set! Open XMMS and CTRL+P (pops up the properties menu). In the 'General Plugins' you should find 'XMMS-Scrobbler x-x-x", select it and enable it!.. Click it again and configure it with your login informations and apply it. Now, close XMMS and restart it. Play music.. And eventually it will send the needed info to Last.fm!

    Yay.. :) You did it!
