Wed 24 Aug – Birmingham Promoters Present : Cults
I wasn't sure whether Cults' superb self-titled album would transfer to the stage, but boy was I wrong. This wonderful five piece belted out all the sublime songs from the album, as well as what I assume was a new track (due to which those attending weren't sure quite when to clap, but that's always the risk with airing new tunes at gigs). They sounded tight, well-practiced and professional, and I found myself liking each tune possibly more than the recorded versions.
The Hare and Hounds, though small, is a wonderful setting to see bands; the size offers an intimacy that can be lacking in other, larger venues. It even offers the chance to actually chat to the band afterwards; the members of Cults drank at the bar after the gig and were all lovely, down-to-earth individuals. Which made me love them all the more.
Can't wait for the follow-up album, this band is one to watch.
