Anthrax, Testament, and Death Angel @ House of Blues Orlando (11/1/11)

Tue 1 Nov – Anthrax, Testament, Death Angel

I really thought I was gonna miss at least Death Angel & part of Testament. I was scheduled to work from 8 A.M. till 8 P.M. (I'm a Cast Member at Walt Disney World). So I posted a shift give away request at my work. Originally, I wanted to give away at least the last 6 hours of it. Then last week, I was talking to a co-worker & she offered to trade her 6-hour shift (from 7:45 A.M. till 1:45 P.M.) with my longer one. Perfect! I'm now set to catch the whole show!

I gotta say, I'm glad I didn't miss Death Angel. As soon as I got inside the House of Blues, they had just started playing. They played a short set, only 7 songs & 30 minutes. Despite the playing time, they made that up with intensity. And these guys were fucking INTENSE. Every song was thrashing & heads were banging, including mine! Mark Osegueda, their lead singer, has a fantastic voice. His screams are amazing! He was all over the place on stage. The other members were tight as hell as well. Awesome performance!

Death Angel Setlist:

1. I Chose the Sky
2. Evil Priest
3. Claws In So Deep
4. Relentless Revolution
5. Seemingly Endless Time
6. The Ultra-Violence
7. Thrown to the Wolves

Next up, we have Testament. I have seen them before, opening up for Motörhead, Heaven & Hell, and Judas Priest on the Metal Masters Tour back in 2008. They got to play a longer set than the one they played when I last saw them 3 years ago: 13 songs & about an hour. I have always loved their style of thrash metal. They certainly didn't disappoint with this badass set! Chuck Billy is one of my favorite thrash metal vocalists. He has such a commanding voice, I love it. The rest of the band ain't no slouches either, especially Alex Skolnick & live session drummer extraordinaire Gene Hoglan. These guys fucking rocked! \m/

Testament Setlist:

1. The Preacher
2. The New Order
3. The Persecuted Won't Forget
4. Envy Life
5. Over The Wall
6. Souls Of Black

9. Henchmen Ride
10. More Than Meets The Eye
11. D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)
12. 3 Days In Darkness
13. Disciples Of The Watch

And last but not least, we have the MIGHTY Anthrax. Prior to this night, I had just gotten into Anthrax earlier in the year. I really enjoyed their albums, especially Fistful of Metal, Among the Living, and my personal favorite, Spreading the Disease. I had also just bought their newest album, Worship Music, which became one of my favorite releases of 2011. So needless to say, I was beyond stoked to catch these guys in a live setting. They did not disappoint! Even though Joey Belladonna was past his prime at age 51, he still sounded pretty good, especially on the newer songs. He did a good job of getting the crowd involved. Scott Ian was really fun to watch, doing his famous moves on stage. Rob Caggiano (who is sadly no longer with Anthrax as of 2013 but is currently a member of Volbeat, another great band) did an excellent job on lead guitar. Frank Bello is one of my favorite thrash metal bassists, and he certainly showed why this night. He was running side to side on stage like a madman, all while headbanging. Finally, we have Charlie Benante, a fucking brilliant drummer. His performance was flawless! Anthrax's setlist mainly consisted of songs from Worship Music & Among the Living, but they included a few songs from other albums as well. Overall, a great performance to end the night!

1. Earth On Hell
2. Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't
