i reckon you're right about the collective, new album is doing bad things to me (in a good way). fuck that last bit of sentence sounds like a shitey motown b-side. the bridge in applesauce and the baltimore part of today's supernatural are both so nice. they coming anywhere near ye on the tour? and let me know when yer coming back and we'll have a jam; i've written plenty wee things for guitar, we could hammer some synths over them and see what happens. and whats all these scrobbles i see? get yer arse out & exploring :D

haha, theres so many stolen ideas through all the songs, but theyve pulled it off fantasically, and when i say they, i mean whoever produced it, because theyre just 3 women who could sing and looked good at the time im fairly sure

spotify:album:67Xx4XGdbuIOykaQrVkXdI stumbled across this the other day, absolute belter of a find, distinct abba vibes with a dutch twist and the odd magnificent queen style harmony

Aye, I expected that to be the case when Avey said the following in an interview a few months before the album came out - "It was really important for us to do something that sounded a little bit rawer, more excitable. Higher energy. To me, Merriweather has this more mellow atmosphere; the pace and tempos on this one are a lot quicker. We just wanted to do a lot of jammers, and not a lot of ambient, spacey stuff. It was nice to take a break from that." I'm enjoying playing the 'guess Animal Collective lyrics without Googling them' game. On Applesauce I'm hearing "I eat a mango and I feel like a little honey good roll"...probably about half right.

Bloody hell, didn't even know you were going. How long are you there for? I know what you mean, I'd say I like it as much as Strawberry Jam/Feels/Sung Tongs and now that I've got into it it's the only Animal Collective album I want to listen to right now.

jumping in here like a honner to ask is centipede hz really yer favourite collective album? i've just got back into them in a big way & nothing can triumph over the early stuff (not the really early high-pitched hipster-whines but feels and sung tongs) you remember we were tryin to play peacebone in advanced music? googled mainz, it looks beautiful, you started uni yet?

I love it, glad they didn't just do a Merriweather rehash as well. "only just got the internet", are you in Germany or something?

I felt the same at first but I've really warmed to it. In a way it's the same old Animal Collective - seems to have no discernible hooks, melodies or sticking points until four or five listens later and you're singing/humming along to it all.

Thanks for that very in-depth response. Yeah, I didn't mean minimal in the proper sense but you probably understood that. I enjoyed all the pieces you posted, I'll definitely be checking out some more. I'm open to expanding my horizons in terms of the classical music I listen to but I usually have it on as reading music and I can only listen to stuff that doesn't have a lot going on (pardon the phrase) when I'm reading like Chopin, Satie, Eno, Budd, Biosphere etc.

HAW YOU, I'm looking for some more minimal, piano-y classical stuff like Chopin and Satie. There's a few I have in mind to check out but I thought I'd ask an expert first. Stuff with only piano in it essentially.
